Djix Red Florist Cyclamen (Cyclamen persicum 'Djix Red') is a compact flowering tuber, about 30cm tall and wide, with a different look from other cyclamen: the blooms face downwards, with recurved scarlet main petals set against smaller white outer petals for a two tone effect. Bred to be easy to grow, it suits pots indoors or out and flowers through the cooler months.
Why you'll love it
-
A two tone flower. Vibrant scarlet petals set off by white outer petals give a sparkling, high contrast bloom that is easy to pick out across a room.
-
Flowers that face down. Recurved blooms face downwards, so the contrasting outer petals show against the larger central ones.
-
Compact and easy to grow. At about 30cm tall and wide it suits small pots and tight spots, and it is bred to be undemanding.
-
More heat tolerant. Djix cyclamen are bred for better heat tolerance than older types, so they cope with warmer conditions.
-
Happy indoors or out. It does well in a bright room or a sheltered spot outside.
Where it works best
A bright spot indoors. Put it in a room with plenty of light but no hot direct sun, such as an east facing window or a bright entry, and keep it clear of heaters.
Planters by the door. Plant one to a 20cm pot, or group several, in a covered entry or balcony where rain and wind cannot batter the flowers.
Garden bed edges. For a winter flower bed in mild areas, plant 30cm apart in bright shade at the front of the border, where the leaves and flowers stay in view.
Growing Djix Red Florist Cyclamen in Australia
Position and climate. It wants bright shade or dappled sun, shelter from wind and nights above about 5C. Warm gardens can keep it on a covered verandah in winter; in cool or frosty regions it belongs indoors. Djix copes with warmth better than older types, but it still wants shade from hot afternoon sun.
Soil. Free drainage is the one requirement. Set the tuber so its top sits above the surface, as in the tube, because burying it invites rot. In beds, use loose soil enriched with compost.
Water and feed. Moisture should be steady and light: never let it dry out in flower, and never leave it standing in water. Feed fortnightly during flowering with a liquid fertiliser for flowering plants.
Pruning. Pull faded flowers and yellowing leaves cleanly from the tuber. Cyclamen go dormant for part of the year, usually summer: reduce watering as the leaves die back, and water again when growth returns.
What to expect when it arrives
Our Djix Red Florist Cyclamen is tube stock: a young plant in an 80mm deep tube that establishes quickly. Plants travel upright. Expect leaf growth first and flowers once the weather cools, with the full 30cm display arriving after a season of growth.
Plants are delivered Australia wide, with delivery from $29.95. Every plant is covered by our 30 day healthy plant guarantee.

Common questions
Is it safe for pets and children?
No. The tuber is poisonous if eaten, so keep the plant away from dogs, cats and small children, and place pots out of reach.
Why do the flowers face down?
That is the Djix signature: recurved petals fold back and face downwards, showing the contrast coloured outer petals against the larger central ones. Upright stems hold them above the leaves.
Why are the leaves turning yellow?
Yellow leaves in summer are normal dormancy: ease off watering, let the tuber rest and restart in autumn. In the middle of the flowering season they point to overwatering or heat, so check the mix and move the pot somewhere cooler.
