Mammoth Salmon Flamed Florist Cyclamen (Cyclamen persicum 'Mammoth Salmon Flamed') is a large, sturdy flowering tuber, about 60cm tall and wide, whose silky petals shade from mid pink at the centre to pale pink and white at the edges, like a watercolour wash. It flowers through the cooler months above silver patterned leaves, and it is the softest looking of the Mammoth colours.
Why you'll love it
-
Watercolour shading. Each petal runs from mid pink at the centre to white at the edge, so the plant carries several tones at once.
-
Big, sturdy plants. At about 60cm tall and wide, roughly twice a wild cyclamen, one plant can fill a pot on its own.
-
Large silky blooms. The flowers are bigger than on standard florist cyclamen, clustered toward the centre on strong stems.
-
Patterned leaves. Silver marked, heart shaped dark green leaves add interest before and after the flowers.
-
Happy in shade. Bright dappled light or part shade is all it needs, where other flowers sulk.
Where it works best
Indoors on a cool, bright sill. Cyclamen like light without heat. A sill, shelf or hallway table with bright, indirect light suits it, away from heaters and midday sun.
Containers outdoors. Plant one to a 30cm pot and stand it on a shaded verandah or balcony, sheltered from wind and frost.
Sheltered garden beds. Where winters are mild, plant 60cm apart at the front of a shaded bed or under a verandah eave.
Growing Mammoth Salmon Flamed Florist Cyclamen in Australia
Position and climate. Choose a bright, shaded, sheltered spot and protect it from any frost, since it grows best above about 5C. In the south and frosty inland areas, treat it as an indoor or covered patio plant. It is a cool season plant, so shelter it from hot afternoon sun.
Soil. Use a free draining potting mix, or loose, humus rich soil in a bed. Plant with the top of the tuber showing above the surface, as it sits in the tube, because a buried tuber is the commonest cause of rot.
Water and feed. Little and often is the rule: water lightly and regularly, keeping the crown and stems dry. Give a liquid flowering plant feed every fortnight through the flowering season.
Pruning. Remove old flowers and yellow leaves by twisting them off at the base. Once flowering finishes and the leaves yellow, reduce watering and let the plant rest through summer, then resume when fresh growth starts.
What to expect when it arrives
We sell Mammoth Salmon Flamed Florist Cyclamen as tube stock, a young plant in an 80mm deep tube that establishes quickly. It arrives as a small tuber with a tuft of leaves and bulks up over a season towards its 60cm size. It flowers in the cooler months, so a plant arriving in warm weather makes leaf first.
Plants are delivered Australia wide, with delivery from $29.95. Every plant is covered by our 30 day healthy plant guarantee.

Common questions
Is it safe for pets and children?
Not around pets or small children. The tuber is poisonous if eaten, so choose a high shelf or a room that pets cannot enter.
Why are the leaves turning yellow?
In summer it is usually dormancy, which is normal: reduce watering and let the tuber rest, then restart in autumn. Yellowing mid season usually means overwatering or too much warmth.
Can I grow it outdoors?
Yes, in a sheltered, shaded spot that stays frost free, such as a covered verandah or a protected bed. Where frosts occur, grow it indoors or under cover through winter.
