Trellis and Plant Supports

A climber needs something to hold, and a wire trellis gives it that without hiding the wall behind. The Diamond Wire Trellis Kit is a wall mounted frame of 316 marine grade stainless steel tension cables strung between two powder coated aluminium brackets, crossing into a diamond pattern 1850mm tall. The decision that matters is width: measure the bare section of wall or fence first, then choose the size that fills it.

Choosing a size and finish

The kit comes in three widths, 605mm, 840mm and 1075mm, all 1850mm tall, in a bright or black finish. The small suits a narrow pier beside a door or between two windows, the medium a courtyard wall, and the large a run of fence or the blank side of a garage.

Which climbers suit a wire trellis

Fine cables suit twining plants, the ones that wrap their stems around a support. Star jasmine, pink jasmine, hardenbergia and the native pandoreas all thread through the diamonds with a little early guidance. Plant 30cm to 40cm out from the wall, lean the plant back to the lowest cables and tie in new shoots every few weeks until they take hold. Self clinging climbers need no trellis at all, and a heavy grower such as wisteria wants a stronger structure. The climbers range explains how each type attaches.

Common questions

Does the trellis look bare before the plant grows?

No. The crossed cables draw a clean diamond on the wall from the first day, then recede behind the foliage as the climber fills in.

Can I use it in a coastal garden?

Yes. The tension cables are 316 stainless steel, the grade used around salt water, so the kit suits coastal gardens as well as inland ones.

Can I train a potted climber up it?

Yes. Stand a large pot at the foot of the trellis and train the stems up from there, which suits a paved courtyard with no garden bed. Delivered Australia wide.
