Pink Beauty Kangaroo Paw (Anigozanthos hybrid 'Pink Beauty') is a neat little paw, about knee high at 50cm and only 30cm wide, with deep pink, furry flowers in spring and summer. It is less hardy than other kangaroo paws, so it asks for a little extra care, but the flower colour is worth it. It suits pots, edging and native garden beds.
Why you'll love it
-
Deep pink flowers. Furry, deep pink paws are a colour most kangaroo paws do not offer, and this one is very generous with them.
-
A slim, knee-high size. At 50cm tall and 30cm wide it takes up little space, which suits pots, narrow beds and edges.
-
Flowers spring and summer. The blooms keep coming through two seasons, and nectar rich flowers attract birds.
-
Good for the vase. The flowers are popular in cut flower arrangements, so you can bring the colour indoors.
-
Worth the extra care. It is less hardy than other kangaroo paws, so it rewards a pot, a sunny sheltered spot and sharp drainage.
Where it works best
Containers. This is the best home for it. Use a pot about 30cm wide with free draining native potting mix, in full sun with good airflow, where you can move it if conditions turn.
Edging. Plant 30cm apart along a sunny, well drained path or bed edge for a row of pink.
Native garden beds. Tuck a group of three at the front of a native bed, where its small size keeps it from being swamped.
Growing Pink Beauty Kangaroo Paw in Australia
Position and climate. Full sun, in a frost-free location with plenty of air. Pink Beauty is less hardy than other kangaroo paws and prefers drier conditions, so it is happiest in Mediterranean, warm temperate and dry inland gardens. In humid or cold districts, keep it in a pot where you control drainage and can shelter it.
Soil. Light, free draining soil. On clay, use a raised mound or a pot of native potting mix, and never let it sit wet.
Water and feed. Water regularly while it settles, then water deeply when dry and let the surface dry between waterings. Feed in spring with a low phosphorus native fertiliser.
Pruning. Remove the first flower spike to help stimulate new buds. Then prune off old flowers and dead foliage regularly, which this plant repays with a better display.
What to expect when it arrives
We sell Pink Beauty Kangaroo Paw as tube stock, a young plant in an 80mm deep tube that establishes quickly, and in 140mm pots in packs of 10. Our grower supplies the tube stock and it is not always available. A sold out tube simply means the grower has none just now, and the notify button on the page emails you the day it is back. Expect a small young plant that grows steadily in full sun. Unpack promptly, plant at the same depth as the tube or pot and water in well.
Plants are delivered Australia wide, with delivery from $29.95. Every plant is covered by our 30 day healthy plant guarantee.

Common questions
Why is Pink Beauty less hardy?
It is a less robust hybrid than other kangaroo paws. Give it a sunny, airy, frost-free position, sharp drainage and, in cold or wet regions, a pot you can shelter.
Is it good in a pot?
Yes, it is ideal for container gardening. A pot around 30cm wide with native potting mix gives the drainage it needs.
How long does it flower?
It flowers through spring and summer. Removing the first flower spike and trimming old flowers keeps new buds coming.
