Madeira Red Single Marguerite (Argyranthemum frutescens 'Madeira Red Single') is the dwarf, single flowered cousin of the double red, only 15 to 25cm tall and 25 to 30cm wide. It is bursting with red daisy flowers over feathery green foliage through the warmer months, and it is small enough for baskets, patio pots and the front of the garden bed.
Why you'll love it
-
Simple red daisies. Clean single flowers in a vivid red look fresh and cheerful, and suit informal gardens.
-
Dwarf and compact. At 15 to 25cm it stays tiny and bushy, perfect for baskets and edging.
-
Early and generous. The Madeira series is bred to be extra bushy and early flowering, so the plant carries lots of blooms.
-
Sizes to suit. Buy it as a tube for pots and borders, or in 140mm pots in packs of 10 for a quick edge.
-
Sunshine plant. It loves full sun and warmth, and keeps flowering with regular feeding and watering.
Where it works best
Hanging baskets and patio pots. The compact mound sits neatly in a basket or a mixed pot, spilling slightly over the rim. Use a free draining mix and feed regularly.
Front of the border. Plant 25cm apart along a sunny edge for a continuous red band. It fills in within a season.
Cottage and gravel gardens. Hot, dry, sunny places suit it, and it works as a small scale accent among silver foliage.
Growing Madeira Red Single Marguerite in Australia
Position and climate. Full sun, and no frost. It suits subtropical, warm temperate and Mediterranean gardens, and in cold regions it is a seasonal plant, or one to overwinter in shelter. It may slow in hot midsummer.
Soil. Free draining, sandy or light soil, although it will grow in clay. Potted plants need quality potting mix and drainage holes.
Water and feed. Mulch with organic matter, and water until established and in dry spells. Regular feeding during flowering keeps the blooms coming all season.
Pruning. Remove dead flowers regularly. Deadheading prolongs flowering and keeps the dwarf mound neat.
What to expect when it arrives
We sell Madeira Red Single Marguerite as tube stock, a young plant in an 80mm deep tube, and in 140mm pots in packs of 10. The tube is the economical way to fill a row of pots, and the 140mm pack gives a more developed plant for an instant edge. The tube is supplied by our grower and is not on offer every week. A sold out tube means the grower has none at present, and the notify button on the page emails you the day it is back.
Plants travel upright. Pot up or plant out promptly, water in well and place in full sun.
Plants are delivered Australia wide, with delivery from $29.95. Every plant is covered by our 30 day healthy plant guarantee.

Common questions
Can I grow it in a hanging basket?
Yes, it is a good choice. The compact mound suits baskets, patio pots and the front of a flower bed. Feed and water regularly to keep it flowering.
Will it survive winter?
Only where it is frost free. In cold regions, treat it as seasonal bedding, or overwinter the plant in a sheltered spot.
Is it safe for pets?
No. Marguerites can upset cats and dogs if chewed, so it is best grown where pets do not graze.
