Jelly Peperomia (Peperomia clusiifolia 'Jelly') is a compact, upright peperomia that reaches about 30cm tall and wide. Its glossy, spoon-shaped leaves are cream with green splashes in the centre and a pink edge, a combination that lifts a shaded patio or a bright room. It is the peperomia to choose when plain green will not do.
Why you'll love it
-
Colour on every leaf. Cream, green and pink sit together on the same glossy leaf, so a single pot looks planned.
-
A neat, container friendly size. At about 30cm by 30cm it fills a pot nicely without outgrowing it in a hurry.
-
Indoors, outdoors or hanging. It suits bright rooms, shaded patios, tropical garden accents and hanging baskets.
-
Simple upkeep. Regular watering, a light monthly feed in the warm months and the occasional tidy of old leaves is all it asks.
-
Pet friendly. Peperomias are generally regarded as non-toxic to cats and dogs.
Where it works best
Shaded patio containers. Plant one per 200mm pot, or set several 30cm apart in a larger bowl, and place it under cover with bright, indirect light.
Tropical garden accents. In frost free gardens, group plants about 30cm apart at the front of a shaded bed, where the pink edges catch the eye.
Indoors and in baskets. Near a bright window it holds its colour best, and the spoon-shaped leaves also suit a hanging basket.
Growing Jelly Peperomia in Australia
Position and climate. A bright spot with indirect sun or dappled shade. This variegated form needs brighter light than the plain green peperomias to keep its cream and pink, and in dim corners the leaves turn greener. It likes warm, humid air and needs frost protection, so it lives outdoors only in tropical and subtropical gardens.
Soil. A good quality potting mix that holds moisture but still drains freely. Avoid heavy soil that stays wet.
Water and feed. Water regularly for the first 12 weeks, then keep up regular watering without letting the mix go sodden. Mist when the air is dry. In the warmer months, give a very diluted liquid feed once a month for healthy, vibrant foliage.
Pruning. Remove old or tired leaves at the base for a quick tidy, and that is about all it needs.
What to expect when it arrives
We sell Jelly Peperomia as tube stock, a young plant in an 80mm deep tube that establishes quickly, and in 200mm pots in packs of 6. The tube is a small starter that needs time to fill out, while the 200mm pots arrive with more leaf and suit a quicker display. Pot the tube on or plant it into a sheltered spot soon after it arrives, and keep it bright.
The tube comes from our grower, so it is not always in stock. A sold out tube simply means none is available today, and the notify button on the page emails you the day it is back.
Plants are delivered Australia wide, with delivery from $29.95. Every plant is covered by our 30 day healthy plant guarantee.

Common questions
Why are the pink edges fading?
Too little light is the usual reason. Move it to a brighter spot with indirect sun and new leaves should come in with better colour. Avoid hot direct sun, which can scorch the leaves.
Does it like humidity?
It enjoys warm, humid air. Mist the leaves when the air is dry, but keep the mix itself only moderately moist, because soggy roots do more harm than dry air.
Can it go in the garden?
Yes, in frost free tropical and subtropical gardens, as an accent in a shaded bed. In cooler places, keep it in a pot that can come inside for winter.
