Charcoal Square Plastic Pot

The Charcoal Square Plastic Pot is a plain, hard-working planter for direct planting, sold in two sizes, 280mm and 350mm. It is moulded plastic with drainage holes through the base and a flat charcoal finish, and it does what a grower pot should: hold soil, drain properly and stay out of the way. It is the sensible choice for a matched run of pots along a path or a courtyard wall.

Why you'll love it

• Drainage that works. Open holes let water clear the root zone instead of sitting around the roots, which is where most container plants come unstuck.
• Square sides line up. Squares sit flush to a wall and butt against each other, so a row reads as one planted band.
• Light enough to rearrange. Plastic construction means you can move a planted pot to chase sun or shelter without a trolley.
• Ready to plant straight into. No liner and no insert needed. Fill it with mix and plant.

Sizes and what fits in them

Both sizes are square in plan, so width and depth are the same.

• 280mm. 27.6cm square and 23.9cm high, about 14 to 16 litres. Herbs, annual colour, a single vegetable plant, or a small foliage plant.
• 350mm. 34.6cm wide and 34.7cm deep at 29.9cm high, about 24 to 28 litres. A young shrub, a larger foliage plant, or a productive herb and salad planting.

Material, weathering and drainage

Material. Moulded plastic in a charcoal finish, square in section. It is an everyday working pot rather than a feature piece, and it is finished and priced accordingly.

Outdoors. Rated for outdoor use. Indoors it is listed as suitable for covered areas rather than open living rooms, because it drains freely from the base.

Drainage. Open drainage holes, no reservoir and no saucer included. Keep the holes clear, since root growth and settled mix will block them. Anywhere the run-off matters, stand the pot on a saucer or tray, ordered separately.

What to expect when it arrives

Pots ship empty, with no plant, no potting mix and no saucer. Check the drainage holes are clear before you fill, then plant directly into the pot. Fill the 350mm size in its final position, because at 24 to 28 litres of wet mix it is awkward to shift even in plastic. Delivered Australia wide, with delivery from $29.95.
