Albo-marginata Peperomia (Peperomia obtusifolia 'Albo-marginata') is a tropical foliage plant with spoon-shaped, fleshy leaves in bright lime green edged with cream. It has a spreading, climbing habit and reaches about 50cm tall and wide, which makes it a natural for hanging baskets and shaded containers. Indoors or out, it brings a light, bright note to a shady corner.
Why you'll love it
-
Lime and cream leaves. Bright lime-green leaves with creamy edges lift a shady corner.
-
Trails and climbs. The spreading, climbing habit spills over the edge of a pot and softens hard lines.
-
Fleshy, spoon-shaped leaves. The thick leaves hold some moisture and give the plant a lush, full look.
-
Indoors or outdoors. It suits a shaded patio or a brightly lit room, so you can enjoy the same plant in either place.
-
Safe around pets. Peperomias are generally considered non-toxic to cats and dogs, though any plant chewed in quantity can upset a stomach.
Where it works best
Hanging baskets and pots. The trailing stems cascade over the edge of a basket on a shaded patio, giving a cream-and-green display all year.
Bright rooms indoors. Place it in a brightly lit room out of direct sun. A spritz of water on dry days helps in air-conditioned homes.
Tropical garden understorey. Plant 40cm apart amid denser groundcovers in shaded tropical gardens, where it adds a lighter tone beneath larger leaves.
Growing Albo-marginata Peperomia in Australia
Position and climate. A bright spot with indirect sunlight or dappled shade. It enjoys warm, humid air, so it suits tropical and subtropical gardens outdoors. In cooler districts, keep it in a pot indoors or under cover, as it dislikes cold.
Soil. Moisture-retaining soil or a good quality potting mix that still drains freely. Rainwater or filtered water gives the best results.
Water and feed. Water regularly and lightly through the first 12 weeks, and regularly once it is established. Mist if the air is dry. Apply a very diluted liquid feed every month to keep the foliage healthy and vibrant.
Pruning. Pinch back the tips now and then to keep the plant bushy. Trim any leggy stems back to a leaf.
What to expect when it arrives
We sell Albo-marginata Peperomia as tube stock, a young plant in an 80mm deep tube that establishes quickly once potted. It arrives small, with a few leaves, and fills out as it grows. Tube stock comes from our grower and is not always available. When the tube shows as sold out, the grower has none at the moment, and the notify button on the page emails you the day it is back.
Plants are delivered Australia wide, with delivery from $29.95. Every plant is covered by our 30 day healthy plant guarantee.

A bright spot with indirect sunlight or dappled shade. Direct afternoon sun can scorch the pale leaf edges.
Is it safe for pets?
Peperomias are generally considered non-toxic to cats and dogs. As with any plant, stop pets chewing it, because a lot of leaf can upset a stomach.
