Super Dooper Boronia (Boronia crenulata 'Super Dooper') is a neat, upright native shrub, about 1m tall and wide, that flowers for much of the year. Its gently scented, open purple pink bells are bigger than most boronias, and they appear nearly year round in sheltered gardens above small, slender evergreen leaves.
Why you'll love it
-
A long flowering season. Starry purple pink bells appear across most of the year in a sheltered garden, rather than for a few short weeks.
-
Bigger flowers. The blooms are larger than average for a boronia, so the display carries from across the garden.
-
A gentle scent. The fragrance is light and pleasant rather than overpowering, so it suits paths and seats.
-
An upright, well behaved habit. It grows to a tidy 1m by 1m, which suits mixed borders without constant clipping.
-
Pot ready. It grows well in pots and containers, which makes drainage easy to control.
Where it works best
Mixed borders. Plant 1m apart among other natives and soft cottage planting. The upright habit stays within its space and the flowers fill the front rows.
Pots and containers. A large pot of free draining, slightly acid mix near a door or seat lets you enjoy the scent at close range.
Cottage and native gardens. It mixes easily with correas, grevilleas and daisies, and it takes full sun to part shade, so it adapts to most beds.
Growing Super Dooper Boronia in Australia
Position and climate. Full sun to part shade. It tolerates a light frost and flowers all year in sheltered gardens, so choose a spot out of strong wind. In hot, dry districts give it afternoon shade, and in colder ones place it against a warm wall.
Soil. Free draining, slightly acid soil with plenty of organic matter gives the best results. Mulch tubestock with gravel after planting to keep roots cool and moist as the young plant establishes.
Water and feed. Water regularly. Boronias suffer if they dry out or sit waterlogged. After pruning, apply a slow release fertiliser for natives and fresh mulch.
Pruning. Prune once flowering has finished, to shape the plant and encourage new growth. Cutting flowering stems for the house is an easy way to do it.
What to expect when it arrives
We sell Super Dooper Boronia as tube stock only: a young plant in an 80mm deep tube that establishes quickly. It arrives small and upright, and it needs a season of regular water and cool, mulched roots to settle. Flowering builds as it grows. Plant it promptly, and do not let the tube dry out before planting.
Plants are delivered Australia wide, with delivery from $29.95. Every plant is covered by our 30 day healthy plant guarantee.

Common questions
Does it really flower all year?
In a sheltered garden it flowers through most of the year. Exposed or very hot sites will shorten the season.
Is it a good pot plant?
Yes. It grows well in pots and containers. Use a free draining, slightly acid mix, water regularly without waterlogging, and top up the mulch.
How do I prune it?
Lightly, once flowering finishes. Remove spent stems to shape the plant. The cut flowers are a bonus, and they last well indoors.
