Snowtopia Bacopa (Sutera cordata 'Snowtopia') is the white trailing flower for baskets, window boxes and patio pots, and a larger, more generous plant than the usual bacopa. It stays near 10cm high and spreads up to 1m, pouring out small snow white flowers from summer to autumn over a mounding, trailing habit.
Why you'll love it
-
A white cascade. Small snow white flowers cover the plant from summer into autumn, so a basket looks like a cascade of blooms.
-
Low and spreading. At 10cm high and up to 1m wide it trails over edges rather than climbing, and mounds neatly in the middle of a pot.
-
Quick to fill out. Growth is fast, and a small plant becomes a full basket or a good patch of cover within one season.
-
Light care. Regular water, a monthly liquid feed through the warm months and a clip in autumn keep it flowering.
Where it works best
Hanging baskets and window boxes. Plant one in a 30cm basket, or space plants 30cm apart along a window box. The stems trail, and the container soon disappears under flowers.
Mixed patio pots. Use it as the white spiller around the rim, with a taller plant in the centre.
Groundcover. Set plants 50cm apart in a sunny, well drained bed to knit into a flowering carpet beneath taller plants. It will not take foot traffic.
Growing Snowtopia Bacopa in Australia
Position and climate. Full sun to part shade, with the best flowering in a sunny position. Snowtopia is frost tender, so bring it indoors once temperatures drop below about 10C. In subtropical and warm temperate gardens it can stay out for much of the year, and cooler regions treat it as a summer and autumn plant.
Soil. Free draining soil is the one real requirement. Use a quality potting mix in containers, and in the garden improve heavy clay or choose a raised bed.
Water and feed. Give it plenty of water during the first 12 weeks, or until established, and water regularly in dry periods after that. Feed with a liquid fertiliser every month in spring and summer to keep the flowers coming through to autumn.
Pruning. Clip the plant over in autumn to refresh it for the following year, removing long straggly stems and any that have finished flowering.
What to expect when it arrives
We sell Snowtopia Bacopa as tube stock, a young plant in an 80mm deep tube that establishes quickly. It arrives small, so pot it up or plant it straight into the basket, water it in well and keep it moist while the roots fill out.
Our tubes come straight from the grower and are not always available. If there are none today, the tube shows as sold out here, and the notify button on the page emails you the day it returns.
Plants are delivered Australia wide, with delivery from $29.95. Every plant is covered by our 30 day healthy plant guarantee.

Common questions
Will Snowtopia Bacopa flower all summer?
It flowers from summer into autumn when it is fed monthly and kept evenly moist. A plant left to dry out in a hot basket stops flowering until it recovers.
Can I use it as a groundcover?
Yes, in a sunny bed with good drainage. Plant 50cm apart and it forms a loose flowering mat up to 1m across. It is not a lawn substitute and will not tolerate being walked on.
Does it need to come inside in winter?
In frosty or cold districts, yes. It is frost tender, so move it under cover when temperatures drop below about 10C. In warm gardens it can stay where it is.
