Pinktopia Bacopa (Sutera cordata 'Pinktopia') is a trailing flowering plant for hanging baskets, window boxes and patio pots, and a bigger plant than the common bacopa. It stays low at about 10cm high but spreads up to 1m, covering itself in small, vivid pink flowers from summer through to autumn.
Why you'll love it
-
A long run of pink. Masses of small, vivid pink flowers open from summer into autumn, which is when most pots and baskets need help.
-
It trails and mounds. The habit is low and spreading, 10cm high and up to 1m wide, so the stems spill over rims and edges instead of standing up.
-
Fast growing. It fills a basket in a single season, which suits anyone who wants colour this year rather than next.
-
One plant, several jobs. Use it in hanging baskets, window boxes, patio pots or as a soft groundcover under taller plants.
Where it works best
Hanging baskets and window boxes. One plant suits a 30cm basket, and a long window box takes a plant every 30cm. The stems trail over the edge and soon hide the container.
Patio pots. Plant it around the rim of a larger pot as the spilling layer, with something upright in the middle.
Groundcover. In a sunny bed, plant 50cm apart and the plants knit into a loose flowering carpet around taller shrubs. It is a soft cover, not a lawn substitute, so keep foot traffic off it.
Growing Pinktopia Bacopa in Australia
Position and climate. Full sun to part shade, with the most flowers in the sun. It is frost tender, so bring pots indoors or under cover when temperatures drop below about 10C. In subtropical and warm temperate gardens it can stay out for most of the year, while cooler southern gardens treat it as a summer and autumn plant.
Soil. Well draining soil. In baskets and pots use a quality potting mix, and in the garden avoid heavy, wet clay where the roots sit in water.
Water and feed. Water generously for the first 12 weeks, or until the plant is established, then regularly through dry spells. Baskets dry out fast in summer, so check them often. Feed with a liquid fertiliser once a month through spring and summer for lush cover and continued flowering.
Pruning. Clip it over in autumn to refresh the plant for next year, taking off any long or tired stems.
What to expect when it arrives
We sell Pinktopia Bacopa as tube stock, a young plant in an 80mm deep tube that establishes quickly. It arrives small, which is normal for a trailing plant, so pot it into a basket or the garden soon after unpacking and keep it moist while it settles.
Tube stock comes from our grower, who does not always have it. When there is none, the tube shows as sold out on this page, and the notify button emails you the day it is back.
Plants are delivered Australia wide, with delivery from $29.95. Every plant is covered by our 30 day healthy plant guarantee.

Common questions
Can I grow Pinktopia Bacopa in a hanging basket?
Yes, that is its best known use. One plant suits a 30cm basket. Water often, because baskets dry quickly, and feed monthly to keep the flowers coming.
Will it survive winter?
It is frost tender, so bring it indoors or under cover once temperatures drop below about 10C. In warm gardens it can stay out for most of the year.
How far will it spread?
Up to 1m wide while staying about 10cm high. Clip it over in autumn to keep it tidy and refresh it for the next season.
