Peach Flambe Coral Bells (Heuchera 'Peach Flambe') is a compact perennial mound only 15 to 20cm high and 35 to 40cm wide, with rounded, scalloped leaves that run from red-orange to warm brown. The colour moves with the light and the temperature, glowing in summer and mellowing to russet in winter. White bell flowers rise to about 40cm in mid-spring and summer.
Why you'll love it
-
Colour that follows the seasons. The leaves shift between red-orange and warm brown with the light and the temperature, so the plant looks different month by month.
-
Smaller than most. At 15 to 20cm it is lower than many heucheras, which makes it the right scale for edges, small beds and pots.
-
Warm tones for shade. Red and russet foliage adds warmth to part and full shade, where cool greens tend to dominate.
-
Hardy and humidity tolerant. It is totally frost hardy and, once established, humidity tolerant.
-
Little upkeep. It grows quickly, performs in a range of soils and climates and needs little maintenance beyond a spring tidy.
Where it works best
Around taller shrubs. Plant it at the foot of larger shrubs and small trees, where its low warm colour fills the gap at ground level.
Patio planters. Top a patio container with it, or combine it with dark-leaved plants such as black mondo grass for a dramatic contrast.
Edges and small beds. Plant 35cm apart in a row for a low, continuous foliage edge along a path or the front of a border.
Growing Peach Flambe Coral Bells in Australia
Position and climate. Dappled or part shade through to full shade. It needs more watering in sun, and in warmer gardens through summer, to keep the leaves lush. It is totally frost hardy and humidity tolerant once established, so it suits cool temperate, warm temperate, Mediterranean and humid subtropical gardens.
Soil. Moist, well-drained soil. Plant heucheras slightly proud of the soil, so that the centre of the plant sits above soil level and drains freely.
Water and feed. Mulch and water regularly until established, usually around 12 weeks, and mulch again each spring.
Pruning. Cut back any dead or untidy foliage in spring to make room for new growth.
What to expect when it arrives
We sell Peach Flambe Coral Bells as tube stock (a young plant in an 80mm deep tube that establishes quickly) and in 140mm pots in packs of 10. Tubes are the economical way to plant a long edge, and the 140mm pots give a fuller plant for a container display. Plants settle in within a few weeks of planting.
Plants are delivered Australia wide, with delivery from $29.95. Every plant is covered by our 30 day healthy plant guarantee.
