Mini Marian Correa (Correa reflexa 'Mini Marian') is a vigorous native groundcover shrub that stays about 30cm high and spreads to 60cm. In winter and early spring it carries small pink and yellow bell flowers that nectar-loving birds favour. It grows fast, spreads low and suppresses weeds.
Why you'll love it
-
Winter flowers. Small pink and yellow bells open in winter and early spring, when not much else is in bloom.
-
Nectar for birds. The flowers are a favourite with nectar-loving birds, especially honeyeaters.
-
Weed suppressing. Its fast, low spread shades the soil and holds back weeds.
-
Tough and water-wise. Established plants tolerate light frost and drought.
-
Neat in a pot. It is compact and tidy enough to work in a garden or a container.
Where it works best
Mass planting. Plant 50cm apart for a dense mat, and expect the plants to knit together as they spread.
Coastal gardens. It is listed for coastal gardens. Give it free-draining soil and some shelter from the strongest winds.
Native and wildlife gardens. It makes a flowering understorey along paths and the front of beds, and a feature in a pot.
Growing Mini Marian Correa in Australia
Position and climate. Full sun or light shade, sheltered from strong winds. It grows best in low humidity, so warm temperate, cool temperate and Mediterranean gardens suit it best.
Soil. Adaptable to most soil types, though it grows best in well-draining soil. Mulch after planting to retain moisture and regulate soil temperature. In a pot, use a free-draining mix in a sunny spot.
Water and feed. Water regularly while it establishes. Established plants tolerate light frost and drought. Follow flowering with a native slow release fertiliser.
Pruning. A light prune once flowering has finished will help give the plant shape and keep it dense.
What to expect when it arrives
We sell Mini Marian Correa as tube stock. That is a young plant in an 80mm deep tube that establishes quickly, and a good choice when you are covering a larger patch. Plant in free-draining soil, mulch and water until it spreads. Expect steady growth through the first season, and a fuller mat in the year after.
Tube stock is grown for us and availability moves around. A sold out tube just means the grower has none today, and the notify button on this page emails you the day it returns.
Plants are delivered Australia wide, with delivery from $29.95. Every plant is covered by our 30 day healthy plant guarantee.
