Lady Tanika Lomandra (Lomandra longifolia 'LM360') is a compact, clumping female lomandra bred by Ozbreed for cleaner leaves and better disease resistance. It grows 400mm to 500mm high and 600mm to 750mm wide, with fine green leaves that cascade from the tussock. Ozbreed says that, unlike male lomandras, it does not attract ants, which lowers the risk of root rot.
Why you'll love it
-
Fewer ants, less root rot. Ozbreed says this female form does not attract the ants that male lomandras do, which significantly reduces the risk of root rot.
-
Cleaner leaves. The foliage stays tidy with fewer blemishes.
-
Self cleaning flowers. The flowers tidy themselves away and the seeds are non-viable, so it keeps its clumping shape without seeding around.
-
Tough in wet and dry. It is very frost tolerant and copes well with both drought and wet conditions.
-
Trims less often. It needs cutting back less frequently than other lomandras.
Where it works best
Mass planting. Plant 50cm apart, about four plants per square metre (Ozbreed's range is three to four). The tussocks merge into a flowing drift.
Borders and boundaries. Use two to three plants per linear metre along fences and driveways to define the edge of a bed.
Swales and rain gardens. Ozbreed lists drainage swales and rain gardens, where it copes with the cycle of soaking and drying.
Feature pots. The cascading habit softens the rim of a large pot.
Growing Lady Tanika Lomandra in Australia
Position and climate. Full sun to moderate shade. Ozbreed lists it for the ACT, Victoria, South Australia, Western Australia, Tasmania, New South Wales and Queensland. It is very frost tolerant and copes well with drought and wet conditions.
Soil. Well drained soil is preferred, though it is very forgiving of poor conditions. Plant into a well mulched garden, using chunky mulch if you can, and keep the crown at or above the soil or mulch level.
Water and feed. Water as required for the first 8 to 13 weeks until established. If necessary, apply a slow release fertiliser in spring.
Pruning. Trim as needed, but less often than other lomandras. Cutting a tired tussock back hard in late winter lets it reshoot fresh.
What to expect when it arrives
We sell Lady Tanika Lomandra as tube stock and in 140mm pots in packs of 10. Tube stock comes from our grower and is not always available, so the tube shows as sold out when the grower has none. The notify button on this page emails you the day it is back. The 140mm pots give a firmer start in a mass planting, and lomandra settles quickly once the soil is warm.
Plants are delivered Australia wide, with delivery from $29.95. Every plant is covered by our 30 day healthy plant guarantee.
