Jezabell Correa (Correa hybrid 'Jezabell') is a small native shrub that carries abundant reddish-pink bell flowers through the colder months, feeding visiting honeyeaters. It makes a dense mound 1 to 1.3m tall and up to 75cm wide, with small dark leaves, and it is small enough to squeeze in almost anywhere.
Why you'll love it
-
Flowers in the cold months. Deep pink-red bells open through autumn and winter, when the garden needs colour.
-
Feeds honeyeaters. The nectar-rich bells draw honeyeaters and other birds into the garden.
-
A distinct habit. The small dark leaves and slightly taller, more open shape set it apart from the similar-coloured Dusky Bells.
-
Hardy and compact. It tolerates light frost and some dry spells once established, in a footprint under a metre across.
-
Happy in alkaline soil. Unlike some natives, correas cope with alkaline soils.
Where it works best
Native and wildlife gardens. Plant it where you can watch the honeyeaters, near a window or a seat.
Informal hedges. Plant 70cm apart for a loose, flowering hedge about 1.2m tall.
Shrubberies and mixed beds. At under 75cm wide, it slots between larger shrubs without crowding them.
Growing Jezabell Correa in Australia
Position and climate. Part shade or dappled shade, sheltered from strong winds. It suits warm temperate, cool temperate and Mediterranean gardens. It is not happy in very humid climates.
Soil. Free-draining soil. Correas are happy in alkaline soils, unlike some natives. Mulch after planting to retain moisture and regulate soil temperature while the young plant establishes.
Water and feed. Keep the water up until it is established. After that it tolerates some dry spells and light frost. Follow flowering with a native slow release fertiliser.
Pruning. A light prune once flowering has finished will give the plant shape and keep it dense. Take only soft growth and never cut into bare wood.
What to expect when it arrives
We sell Jezabell Correa as tube stock. That is a young plant in an 80mm deep tube that establishes quickly. Plant it in dappled shade in free-draining soil, mulch it and keep the water regular through its first summer.
Tube stock comes from our grower and is not always available. When the grower has none, the tube shows as sold out on this page, and the notify button emails you the day it is back.
Plants are delivered Australia wide, with delivery from $29.95. Every plant is covered by our 30 day healthy plant guarantee.

Common questions
Will it grow in shade?
Yes. It prefers part shade or dappled shade and does not mind semi-shade. Shelter it from strong winds.
How big does it grow?
It makes a mound 1 to 1.3m tall and up to 75cm wide. It has smaller leaves and a taller, more open habit than Dusky Bells.
Does it cope with humidity?
Not well. It is not happy in very humid climates, so choose a position with good airflow, or a drier region, for the best results.
