Dark Pink Bower Vine (Pandorea jasminoides 'Dark Pink') is a fast-growing Australian native climber that reaches up to 4m tall and wide. Glossy evergreen leaves carry clusters of dark pink flowers, and a trellis, fence or pergola is all it needs to become a leafy summer screen. It also suits a large container on a courtyard or patio.
Why you'll love it
-
Deep pink flowers. Clusters of dark pink blooms stand out against the glossy green leaves through the warmer months.
-
Quick cover. It grows fast, so a new fence, arbour or pergola can be clothed in a few seasons.
-
Evergreen leaves. Glossy foliage stays on the plant all year, so the structure never looks bare.
-
A true native. It is an Australian native climber, a good fit for a native or mixed garden.
-
Pots or ground. It grows in the garden with plenty of room, and it also suits containers and courtyard planting.
Where it works best
Fences and trellises. Plant 2m apart along a fence or trellis and tie the young stems in as they grow. Within a few seasons they join into a continuous screen.
Arbours and pergolas. A fast climber over an archway or pergola gives summer shade and a private nook to sit in.
Courtyards and large pots. In a big container with a sturdy frame it brings height to a paved area, as long as it gets plenty of water.
Growing Dark Pink Bower Vine in Australia
Position and climate. Plant in a sunny, open position with plenty of space to climb. It suits subtropical and warm temperate gardens, and it needs protection from frost, especially when young. In colder districts, choose a sheltered wall or grow it in a pot that moves under cover.
Soil. Well-drained soil enriched with compost suits it. In a container, use a quality potting mix and a pot with good drainage.
Water and feed. Mulch and water regularly until established, usually around 12 weeks, and provide plenty of water during dry periods. Apply a slow release fertiliser in spring to feed the new growth.
Pruning. Prune regularly to keep a tidy shape, trimming straggly stems after the main flowering. A vigorous vine responds well to a firm trim.
What to expect when it arrives
We sell Dark Pink Bower Vine as tube stock (a young plant in an 80mm deep tube that establishes quickly), in 140mm pots in packs of 10 and in single 300mm pots. The tube is the value choice for a long fence, while a 300mm pot gives a bigger plant that is ready to be tied in straight away. Tube stock comes from our grower and is not always available. When the tube shows as sold out, the grower has none at the moment, and the notify button on the page emails you the day it is back.
Plants are delivered Australia wide, with delivery from $29.95. Every plant is covered by our 30 day healthy plant guarantee.
