Bent and Bold Grevillea (Grevillea 'Bent and Bold') is a mixed, unlabelled selection of healthy native grevilleas, some of them crooked or twisted, sold as a low-cost way to build a native or wildlife garden. Because the variety is not named, mature size and flower colour vary from plant to plant. Expect a bushy native shrub with spidery flowers through much of the year, often with a spring flush.
Why you'll love it
-
A low-cost native planting. Mixed, unlabelled stock makes it affordable to plant a large area of natives.
-
Flowers for wildlife. Grevillea flowers feed honeyeaters and small native mammals, and the branches give birds somewhere to perch.
-
Flowers through most of the year. Spidery blooms appear for much of the year, often with a spring flush.
-
Tough once established. It is frost hardy and needs little water once it has settled in.
-
Healthy plants with character. Every plant is healthy, most are a larger than usual size, and the bends simply give a wild, uneven look.
Where it works best
Acreage and large native plantings. Plant 1.5m apart in loose groups for an informal planting. Because sizes vary, leave generous room and allow plants to mingle.
Wildlife gardens. Bent stems make natural perches for honeyeaters, so the plants earn their place from the first season of flowers.
Low-cost native gardens. Use them where character matters more than a matched row, such as back corners, paddock edges and bush style borders.
Growing Bent and Bold Grevillea in Australia
Position and climate. Choose a position in full sun to part shade. Grevilleas will grow in most areas of Australia except the tropics and snowfields. Light frosts will not damage the plant, although hard frosts may burn soft new growth.
Soil. Plant in well drained clay loams or sandy soil with a neutral to acid pH.
Water and feed. Water during the first 8 to 12 weeks until the plant is established, then little water is needed. Feed with a slow release native fertiliser when buds form, and choose one with phosphorus under 3 per cent, because grevilleas are sensitive to phosphorus.
Pruning. Prune lightly after flowering to promote flowering and dense growth.
What to expect when it arrives
We sell Bent and Bold Grevillea as tube stock, a young plant in an 80mm deep tube that establishes quickly. The plants are mixed and unlabelled, so you will not receive a variety name, a flower colour or a mature size. Some have crooked or bent stems, but all are healthy and most are larger than a standard tube plant.
Plants are delivered Australia wide, with delivery from $29.95. Every plant is covered by our 30 day healthy plant guarantee.

Common questions
Which grevillea will I get?
A mixed, unlabelled one. We cannot tell you the variety, flower colour or exact size, which is why the stock is offered at such a low cost.
Can I choose the flower colour?
No. If you need a particular colour or size, choose a named grevillea from our range instead.
How big will it grow?
Sizes vary between varieties. We have no single figure, so allow room of about 1 to 2m in each direction as a working guide.
