Solar Deck and Step Lights
Steps and deck edges are where a garden trips people up after dark, and they are also the hardest places to get mains power to. These solar deck and step lights need no wiring and no electrician. The range covers recessed kits that sit flush in a deck or paving and small surface lights that fix to a riser, tread or wall. The choice is between a light set into the surface and one mounted on it.

More information
Recessed kits for decks and paving
The two in-ground kits run a chain of lights from one remote solar panel, so the lights can go wherever the deck needs them, including under a roof or pergola, while the panel sits in the sun. Both are rated for a walk-over pressure of up to 100kg.
- Deck and in-ground kit. Five or ten 30mm stainless steel lights, only 18.5mm deep, that recess into a deck board or paver. A 5m cable runs from the panel to the first light, with 2m between lights. The ten light kit also comes in a colour changing version.
- 4-way directional kit. Four warm white lights in die-cast aluminium, each with a hooded glass lens that spreads light out across the ground. The cable is 5m to the first light and 4m between the others.
Plan the cable before you drill: lay the kit out on the surface first and check the panel reaches a sunny position, ideally open to the north.
Surface lights for steps and risers
The step lights are self contained, each with its own panel and battery, so each one needs direct sun where it is fixed. The Stealth is a small black light in 1 LED and 3 LED sizes that marks a stair tread or walkway edge in warm white. The two motion sensor lights fix flat to a riser or wall: the flush stainless steel light gives 40 lumens, a practical level for marking a step or side gate, and the square black Stylish gives 160 lumens. Steps in shade, or under dense planting, suit the remote panel kits better.
Common questions
Can I walk on recessed solar deck lights?
Yes. Both kits are rated for a walk-over pressure of up to 100kg, and the lights sit flush so there is nothing to catch a foot. That is foot traffic, so keep them out of driveways.
How many step lights do I need?
On a straight flight, one light on every step or every second step, fixed to the riser or the wall beside it. On wide steps, use one at each end.
Are they weatherproof?
The deck kit lights are rated IP67 with an IP65 panel, the two sensor step lights are IP65 and the Stealth is IP44.
What about the planting beside the deck?
Deck lights mark edges. For the garden around them, add solar spotlights for feature plants and pots, or bollards for the path leading off the deck. Delivered Australia wide.
