The White Milano Self Watering Planter is an egg-shaped pot made in Italy from 100 percent recycled plastic, with a water tray and reservoir built into the base. It sells in three sizes, 380mm, 480mm and 580mm across, holding roughly 22 to 26, 40 to 45 and 65 to 75 litres of mix. The reservoir is what sets it apart: it buffers the plant against the week you are away, and the UV resistant body suits a hot balcony or a lounge room equally.

Three sizes, named for the width at the widest point. Soil volumes allow for the reservoir underneath.

  • 380mm. 38cm across, 32cm high, about 22 to 26 litres. Compact indoor plants and decorative foliage.
  • 480mm. 48cm across, 40cm high, about 40 to 45 litres. Feature plants and shrubs.
  • 580mm. 58cm across, 47cm high, about 65 to 75 litres. Large shrubs and small trees, with the longest run between reservoir top-ups.

Material, weathering and drainage

Material. Recycled plastic, made in Italy, finished in white with a soft egg profile. Clean it with a damp cloth or a rinse.

Outdoors. Rated for outdoor use on patios, courtyards, balconies and terraces, as well as indoors. We make no frost claim for it, so in hard frosting districts empty the reservoir before winter.

Drainage. There are no separate holes to drill. The self-watering system manages excess water through the built-in tray and reservoir, so no saucer is needed indoors. Use a free draining potting mix so the reservoir does its job.

What to expect when it arrives

Planters ship empty, with no mix, plant or water in the reservoir. Set the pot in place before filling: the 580mm takes 65 to 75 litres of mix plus a full reservoir. Planters are delivered Australia wide, with delivery from $29.95.
