White Heart Anthurium (Anthurium andreanum 'White Heart') is the compact white anthurium, 30 to 45cm tall and 30cm wide, with large heart shaped flowers above deep green evergreen leaves. The blooms are very white with soft pink touches, and they stand upright and clear of the foliage. It is a neat choice for indoor rooms and shaded tropical corners.
Why you'll love it
-
Very white flowers. Large heart shaped spathes in clean white, touched with pink in the spike, brighten a shady spot.
-
Genuinely compact. At 30 to 45cm tall and 30cm wide it fits a desk, a bathroom shelf or a small bed.
-
Upright blooms. Flowers sit straight and clear of the leaves, so they show off properly.
-
Long lasting. The flowers last well, and anthuriums have a vase life of about three weeks when cut.
-
Deep green foliage. The glossy evergreen heart shaped leaves make a dark backdrop that sets off the white.
Where it works best
Indoor rooms. A bright room with filtered light and no direct sun suits White Heart. The small size makes it easy to place on shelves and tables.
Shaded tropical corners. In a frost free garden, plant 30cm apart for a low, pale border in the shade of larger plants.
Pots and entries. A pair in matching pots by a shaded door makes a clean, formal display, and they move easily when the weather changes.
Growing White Heart Anthurium in Australia
Position and climate. Plant in a sheltered spot with bright, filtered light and no direct sun. It needs warmth and humidity and cannot take frost, so outdoors it suits tropical and frost free subtropical gardens. In cooler regions, keep it indoors.
Soil. A light, free draining mix rich in organic matter. Mulch garden plantings, and use a quality potting mix in a container.
Water and feed. Water regularly while it establishes, usually around 12 weeks, and keep it moist through dry spells. Apply slow release fertiliser in spring and half strength liquid fertiliser every two to four weeks in the warmer months.
Pruning. Cut spent flower stems and tired leaves at the base. Wipe the leaves of indoor plants with a damp cloth, and repot container plants at the start of spring.
What to expect when it arrives
We sell White Heart Anthurium as tube stock, a young plant in an 80mm deep tube. It is slow growing when young and propagated by tissue culture, so expect a small plant that fills out gradually. Tube stock comes from our grower, who does not always have it. The tube shows as sold out when the grower has none, and the notify button on the page emails you the day it is available again.
It travels upright. Unpack promptly, pot up and keep it warm and out of direct sun while it settles.
Plants are delivered Australia wide, with delivery from $29.95. Every plant is covered by our 30 day healthy plant guarantee.

Common questions
Are the flowers really white?
They are very white once mature. Flowers can emerge green and turn white as they grow, so do not worry if a new bloom starts out pale green.
Is it small enough for an apartment?
Yes. At 30 to 45cm tall and 30cm wide it suits a bright shelf or table, as long as it gets filtered light and stays out of cold draughts.
Is it toxic to pets?
Yes. The leaves contain a poisonous substance, so keep it away from children and pets, and avoid contact with the sap on your skin.
