The Terracotta Tapered Low Bowl Planter is a wide, shallow bowl in lightweight composite, finished in a warm terracotta tone from the Green Earth range. It comes in two sizes, 600mm and 700mm, and both are 26.5cm deep, which is enough soil for a real planting without the pot dominating the space. It gives you the colour of clay at a weight you can move on your own.

Why you'll love it

  • Light enough to reposition. The composite body weighs far less than fired clay or concrete, so an empty bowl is a one person lift.
  • A low, wide profile. The tapered shape spreads the planting sideways, which works on a courtyard, a landing or a low bench where a tall pot would crowd the space.
  • Drainage already in the base. Holes are moulded in, so nothing needs drilling before you plant.
  • Coordinates with the range. Other Green Earth planters share the finish, so a group reads as one set.

Sizes and what fits in them

Two sizes, both 26.5cm deep. The name is the width across the top.

  • 600mm. Roughly 35 to 40 litres of mix. Suits succulents, herbs and low foliage plants.
  • 700mm. Roughly 55 to 60 litres. Room for groundcovers, mixed plantings and layered feature arrangements.

At 26.5cm deep, both sizes hold enough for shallow rooted and spreading plants. A specimen that wants to send a taproot down is better off in a deeper pot.

Material, weathering and drainage

Material. Lightweight composite in a terracotta finish. It is made to look like clay rather than to be clay, so do not expect the breathability of a real terracotta pot, and do not expect the fragility either.

Outdoors. It is made for indoor and outdoor use. No frost or UV rating is published for the finish, so we will not claim one: in a hard frost district, or in relentless western sun, a sheltered position is the safer choice.

Drainage. Keep the moulded holes clear, particularly after heavy rain. No saucer is included, so sit it on a tray indoors or on a timber deck.

What to expect when it arrives

The bowl ships empty: no plant, no potting mix and no saucer. Put it in position before you fill it, because 55 to 60 litres of wet mix makes the 700mm awkward to move afterwards. A wipe with a damp cloth is all the cleaning it needs. Pots are delivered Australia wide, with delivery from $29.95.
