The Terracotta Tapered Cylinder Planter comes from the Green Earth range: a lightweight plastic planter with a textured terracotta finish and a tapered cylinder profile. It is sold in two sizes, 400mm and 500mm, both standing 26.5cm tall. The appeal is straightforward, you get the warmth of terracotta at a weight one person can carry, and it works indoors and out.

  • Terracotta warmth without the mass. The textured earth toned finish reads as fired clay, but the planter is moulded plastic and weighs a fraction of the real thing.
  • Wide and low, so it plants well. A 26.5cm height with a broad tapered mouth suits spreading foliage better than a tall narrow pot.

Sizes and what fits in them

Two sizes, both 26.5cm tall, so the difference is width and soil volume.

  • 400mm, about 45 to 55 litres. A feature foliage plant, a compact shrub, or a generous herb planting with room between plants.
  • 500mm, about 65 to 75 litres. Larger shrubs and mixed plantings where you want two or three plants sharing one pot.

If you are deciding between them, the 500mm gives more planting flexibility and more presence for very little extra handling.

Material, weathering and drainage

Material. Lightweight moulded plastic with a textured terracotta finish. Wipe it with a damp cloth or rinse it with water.

Outdoors. Rated for both indoor and outdoor use. Set it on a flat, stable surface before you plant, and keep the drainage holes clear after watering or heavy rainfall. We do not rate it as frost proof or publish a UV rating for it, so treat exposed, hard frosting sites with the usual care.

Drainage. Drainage holes are moulded into the base. You can plant directly into it or drop a grow pot inside, whichever suits, as a liner is optional rather than required. No saucer is included.

What to expect when it arrives
