Starlight Snakeskin Plant (Fittonia 'Starlight') is a tiny, low foliage plant about 15cm high that spreads to 30 to 60cm wide. Its dark green leaves carry a mosaic of white markings, more than other snakeskin plants, which gives the pot a sparkling, bright look. It is made for terrariums, tabletops and shaded spots.
Why you'll love it
-
The whitest markings. White mosaic patterning over dark green gives more contrast than other varieties.
-
Compact and spreading. A low habit with a slight spread suits small pots and terrariums.
-
Thrives out of the sun. It prefers a spot out of direct sunlight, so it suits rooms with filtered light.
-
Easy to keep fresh. A regular water spritz keeps the leaves clean and healthy.
-
Pet friendly. Snakeskin plants are generally regarded as non-toxic to cats and dogs.
Where it works best
Terrariums and tabletops. The white markings stand out against dark green, which makes a small terrarium look bright.
Shaded pots and shelves. Choose a bright spot with indirect light and keep it out of direct sun.
Underplanting in warm gardens. Plant 30cm apart beneath shrubs in a frost-free, shaded subtropical or tropical garden.
Growing Starlight Snakeskin Plant in Australia
