Silver Pearl Arrowhead Plant (Syngonium podophyllum 'Silver Pearl') is a tropical foliage plant about 30cm high and wide, with arrow shaped leaves that are almost entirely silvery white. It is the palest syngonium we sell, a shimmering plant for bright, shaded rooms. It is also a plant that needs a gentle hand with light.
Why you'll love it
-
Silvery white leaves. The arrow shaped leaves are almost all silver and white, a shimmery colour few houseplants can match.
-
A compact size. About 30cm high and wide, it fits a table, a desk or a bathroom shelf.
-
Brightens dark corners. Pale leaves catch and reflect light, so a silver plant lifts a shaded room.
-
Pairs with anything. It looks right beside deep green foliage and beside warm terracotta or dark glazed pots.
-
Straightforward care. Humid shade, indirect light and sensible watering are all it needs.
Where it works best
Tables, desks and shelves. It stays compact, so it suits a small surface where a larger plant would crowd. A pot a little wider than the root ball is enough.
Bright bathrooms and covered patios. A humid spot with bright indirect light suits it. Keep it out of any direct sun.
Shaded tropical beds. In frost free gardens plant 30cm apart under taller plants, where the pale leaves lighten the shade.
Growing Silver Pearl Arrowhead Plant in Australia
Position and climate. Humid shade with indirect light suits it. Because the leaves carry so little green, they have less to work with, so bright indirect light helps, and direct sun scorches pale tissue quickly. It is frost tender, so grow it outdoors in tropical and subtropical gardens only, and indoors elsewhere.
Soil. Free draining soil or a good quality potting mix. Use a pot with drainage holes and never leave it standing in water.
Water and feed. Water regularly for the first 12 weeks, and after that only if the soil seems dry. Feed using a liquid fertiliser at half rate every few weeks as the plant establishes, then occasionally. It likes humidity, so a spritz on the foliage helps indoors.
Pruning. Remove old leaves for a quick tidy up. Syngonium is mildly toxic if chewed and the sap can irritate skin, so wash your hands after handling it and keep it away from pets and small children.
What to expect when it arrives
We sell Silver Pearl as tube stock, a young plant in an 80mm deep tube that establishes quickly. It arrives small, so pot it into a quality potting mix soon after unpacking and keep it in bright, indirect light while the new leaves open.
Tube stock comes from our grower, who does not always have it. When there is none, the tube shows as sold out on this page, and the notify button emails you the day it is back.
Plants are delivered Australia wide, with delivery from $29.95. Every plant is covered by our 30 day healthy plant guarantee.

Common questions
Why are the leaves so pale?
That is the plant's natural colouring. Silver Pearl has leaves that are almost entirely silvery white, which is why it wants bright but indirect light and no direct sun.
How big will it grow?
About 30cm high and wide, so it stays compact enough for a table or shelf.
Can I grow it where pets can reach?
No. Syngonium is mildly toxic if chewed and the sap can irritate skin, so wash your hands after handling it and keep it away from pets and small children.
