Raspberry Ripple Angel Wings (Caladium bicolor 'Raspberry Ripple') is a tropical foliage plant with large, coral pink, heart shaped leaves overlaid with a fine web of pale pink and olive green. It grows 30cm to 60cm tall and wide and suits humid shady gardens, covered patios and well lit rooms. All caladiums are toxic if chewed, so keep this one away from pets and small children.
Why you'll love it
-
Soft coral and blush tones. The leaves shade from blush through coral to bronze pink and radiate from a deep coral heart.
-
A fine olive web. A delicate olive green pattern overlays the pink, so the leaf has depth rather than a flat wash of colour.
-
Warmth for the shade. Where shaded corners look cool and green, these coral tones bring warmth to the planting.
-
A size for pots. At 30cm to 60cm it fits a container comfortably and does not crowd a small courtyard.
-
An indoor performer. It is happy kept indoors as a houseplant, in a well lit room out of direct sun.
Where it works best
Humid tropical gardens. Plant 40cm apart in groups under a tree canopy, where the soil stays moist and the light is indirect.
Shaded patio pots. A pot of three plants in quality potting mix makes an instant coral focal point beside a covered seat.
Indoor displays. A bright room with steady warmth suits it, and a daily spritz on the leaves keeps the humidity up.
Growing Raspberry Ripple Angel Wings in Australia
Position and climate. Humid, shady and frost free, with indirect sunlight. It suits tropical and subtropical gardens outdoors. Elsewhere, grow it in a pot that can live indoors, or on a sheltered patio in summer.
Soil. Free draining soil or a good quality potting mix. It prefers soil that is moist but never soggy.
Water and feed. Water regularly through the first 12 weeks, and after that only when the soil seems dry. Feed with a liquid fertiliser at half rate every few weeks as the plant establishes.
Pruning. Remove the old leaves for a quick tidy up. Foliage may die back during the cooler months while the plant is dormant. Remove spent leaves, store the plant in a dry, dark room and water it only every four to six weeks until it wakes in spring.
What to expect when it arrives
We sell Raspberry Ripple Angel Wings as tube stock only: a young plant in an 80mm deep tube that establishes quickly. It arrives with young leaves, and the full coral and olive pattern develops as it grows. Keep it warm and out of cold draughts, then plant it into a shady bed or a pot soon after it arrives.
Tube stock comes from our grower and is not always available. When the tube shows as sold out, the grower has none ready at the moment, and the notify button on this page emails you the day it is back.
Plants are delivered Australia wide, with delivery from $29.95. Every plant is covered by our 30 day healthy plant guarantee.

Common questions
How much light does it need?
Indirect light only. Outdoors, choose shade or bright shade under trees. Indoors, a well lit room away from direct sun suits it, because strong sun can scorch the leaves.
How often should I water it?
Water regularly for the first 12 weeks while it establishes. After that, water only when the soil seems dry, keeping the mix moist but never soggy.
Can I plant it outside in a cool climate?
Only for the warm months, and only where frost never reaches it. In cooler regions, keep it in a pot and bring it inside or under cover well before cold weather.
