Pompeii U Planter

The Pompeii U Planter is a tall, straight sided pot in hand crafted double fired ceramic, finished in the black and white volcanic texture that runs through the Pompeii range. It comes in four sizes, from 26 x 36cm to 55 x 66cm. Every size is taller than it is wide, which is the useful part: it lifts a plant to eye level where a wide bowl would never fit.

• Hand applied volcanic finish. The black and white texture is worked by hand, so no two pots carry the same marbling.

Sizes and what fits in them

All measurements are outside dimensions, diameter by height.

• 26 x 36cm. A single upright foliage plant, or a trailing plant set high to spill down the side.
• 36 x 46cm. A compact shrub, a clipped ball or a strappy plant for a doorway.
• 45 x 56cm. A substantial shrub or a slim palm. Good scale for a matched pair.
• 55 x 66cm. A small tree or tall architectural specimen, with depth to hold it through summer.

Material, weathering and drainage

Material. Hand crafted, double fired ceramic. The texture sits in the surface, not on top of it, and varies piece to piece.

Outdoors. Made for outdoor positions. We hold no frost rating for this finish, so in hard frosting districts give it a sheltered spot.

Drainage. Keep the holes clear and raise the pot on feet so water escapes freely. Cover the holes with a single layer of fibreglass flyscreen, never fabric or geofabric, which clog. Add a 50mm layer of 10mm gravel, then a premium potting mix rather than garden soil. Choose plants suited to containers: aggressive roots can damage any planter.
