Neon Arrowhead Plant (Syngonium podophyllum 'Neon') is a trailing syngonium that stays around 40cm high and wide, with rounded arrow shaped leaves in pale coral pink. As the plant matures the pink softens to a peachy yellow, so it never stops changing. It is the pastel one, and it is easy to place in a shady room.
Why you'll love it
-
Pastel coral pink. New leaves are a pale coral pink, a soft colour that stands out among deep green houseplants.
-
Colour that matures. The pink shifts to peachy yellow as the plant grows, so you see the full range as it develops.
-
Rounded leaves. The arrow shape is fuller and rounder than in some syngoniums, which gives the plant a soft, dense look.
-
Trailing habit. The stems trail, so it works equally well in a hanging pot or on the edge of a shelf.
-
Three sizes. Tube stock, 200mm pots and 300mm pots let you start small or buy a fuller plant straight away.
Where it works best
Shelves and hanging pots. Stems that trail over the edge of a pot show the pastel colours well. A bright, indirect light spot keeps the colour clear.
Mixed indoor groupings. Set it beside deep green or dark leaved plants and the coral shows up strongly.
Shaded tropical gardens. In frost free gardens, plant 40cm apart as an underplanting in a humid, sheltered spot.
Growing Neon Arrowhead Plant in Australia
Position and climate. Humid shade with indirect light suits it. Bright indirect light holds the coral colouring, while strong direct sun scorches the pale leaves. It is frost tender, so grow it outdoors in tropical and subtropical gardens only, and indoors in cooler climates.
Soil. Free draining soil or a good quality potting mix, in a pot with drainage holes.
Water and feed. Water regularly during the first 12 weeks, then only if the soil seems dry. Feed using a liquid fertiliser at half rate every few weeks as the plant establishes, then occasionally. It likes humidity, so regular water and a spritz on the foliage keep indoor plants happy.
Pruning. Remove old leaves for a quick tidy up, and trim stems that grow too long. Syngonium is mildly toxic if chewed and the sap can irritate skin, so wash your hands after handling it and keep it away from pets and small children.
What to expect when it arrives
We sell Neon as tube stock, a young plant in an 80mm deep tube that establishes quickly, in 200mm pots in packs of 6 and as single 300mm pots. The tube is the simple way to start a collection, the 200mm packs suit a larger display, and the 300mm pot gives you a fuller plant from the first day.
The tube is supplied by our grower, so it is not always in stock. While there is none it shows as sold out, and pressing the notify button on this page sends you an email the day it is available again.
Plants are delivered Australia wide, with delivery from $29.95. Every plant is covered by our 30 day healthy plant guarantee.

Common questions
Why does the pink fade to yellow?
That is the plant maturing. Neon starts as a pale coral pink and becomes peachy yellow with age, so a plant carries both colours as it grows.
Which size should I buy?
The tube is the simplest start for a new collection. The 200mm packs suit a bigger display, and the single 300mm pot gives you a fuller plant at once.
Is Neon safe for pets?
No. Syngonium is mildly toxic if chewed and the sap can irritate skin, so wash your hands after handling it and keep it away from pets and small children.
