Moni Poinsettia (Euphorbia pulcherrima 'Moni') is a vigorous, bushy poinsettia whose winter bracts come out pure white against dark green leaves. In a pot it stays 30cm to 60cm high and about 60cm wide, and planted into a frost free garden it matures into a large shrub of 2m to 3m. The bracts are coloured leaves, and the warmer the position, the whiter they get.
Why you'll love it
-
Pure white winter colour. White bracts against dark leaves give a clean, snowy look in the cool months.
-
Branches freely. Plenty of branching stems carry colour all over the plant rather than in a few heads.
-
Pot or garden. Enjoy it as a potted colour plant first, then plant it out to grow into a large shrub in a frost free garden.
-
Vigorous. It is a strong grower, so plants establish and fill out quickly in warm conditions.
-
Warmth brings out the white. The warmer the position, the brighter and whiter the bracts.
Where it works best
Pots indoors and on patios. Pot on into a slightly larger container as it grows, using standard potting mix, and place it in a bright, warm, airy spot.
Winter colour in subtropical gardens. Planted out in a frost free garden it becomes a large shrub of 2m to 3m, so allow about 2m of space and an open, airy position.
Large containers. A big pot restrains its size while still giving the roots room, and keeps the white bracts at eye level.
Growing Moni Poinsettia in Australia
Position and climate. A warm, frost free, open and airy position in full sun or bright part shade. Cold weather may make it drop its leaves, so tropical and subtropical gardens suit it best, with pots for everywhere else. Poinsettias are short day plants, so the bracts begin to colour as the days shorten. Streetlights or lamps shining on the plant at night can delay that colour.
Soil. Fertile, moist, free draining soil in the garden, or standard potting mix in a pot.
Water and feed. Water regularly so the mix stays moist but never soggy, and feed through the warm months with a balanced fertiliser.
Pruning. Cut back after the bracts fade to keep a bushy shape. Wear gloves, because the milky sap can irritate skin and eyes.
What to expect when it arrives
We sell Moni Poinsettia as tube stock: a young plant in an 80mm deep tube that establishes quickly once potted on into a larger container or planted out in a warm garden. Plants travel upright. Unpack them promptly, keep them out of cold draughts and water lightly while they settle.
Tube stock comes from our grower and is not always available. When the grower has none, the tube shows as sold out, and the notify button on this page emails you the day it is back.
Plants are delivered Australia wide, with delivery from $29.95. Every plant is covered by our 30 day healthy plant guarantee.

Common questions
Why has my poinsettia not coloured up?
Poinsettias need long nights to colour. Keep it out of artificial light after dark, and give it warmth during the day.
Can I plant it in the garden?
Yes, in frost free gardens, where it grows into a large shrub of 2m to 3m. Cold weather can make it drop its leaves.
Is it safe for pets?
No. The milky sap irritates skin and eyes, and the plant can upset the stomach if eaten, so keep it away from cats, dogs and small children.
