Little Sunray Grey Euryops (Euryops pectinatus 'Little Sunray') is a hardy, vigorous shrub about 1m high and 1m wide, with soft, feathery grey foliage and golden yellow daisies from spring right through to winter. It is half the size of the species form, which makes it the right scale for a flowerbed or a big planter.
Why you'll love it
-
A long flowering season. Daisy flowers mass over the shrub from spring, and in some years they carry on into winter.
-
Soft grey foliage. The fine, feathery leaves are grey and soft, a good foil for the bright yellow flowers.
-
Heat and drought tolerant. It copes with hot sites and dry spells, and will take a light overnight frost in a sheltered position.
-
Feeds pollinators. It is rich in pollen for bees and butterflies, including through winter when little else is in flower.
-
Little care. Once established it needs very little water or attention.
Where it works best
Flowerbeds and mixed beds. Allow about 1m between plants. At that spacing each shrub forms a full rounded mound of colour without crowding its neighbour.
Planters and containers. At around a metre it suits a large planter, where it makes a long-lasting show of late-season colour.
Poor, dry soils in sun. It is a good choice for sunny sites with poor, dry soil, where fussier shrubs struggle.
Coastal gardens. It is happy in coastal sites, so it suits seaside plantings as well as inland beds.
