Grey Savannah Planter

The Savannah is a large rectangular planter made from a wood plastic composite, 98cm long, 43cm high and 34cm deep, holding roughly 140 litres of mix. It reads as timber from a few metres away but does not rot, split or need oiling, which is the reason to choose a composite over a hardwood trough.

Why you'll love it

• Timber look without the upkeep. The wood plastic composite keeps a natural grain and a textured grey finish, and it is built to sit outside year round.
• 140 litres of root run. Enough soil to keep shrubs and grasses growing properly rather than starving in a shallow box.
• Light for its footprint. Easier to position than concrete or solid timber at the same length, which suits balconies and terraces.
• Drainage on your terms. The inner pot can be drilled, so you set the holes to match what you are planting.

Sizes and what fits in them

This planter is sold in one size only.

• 980mm. 98cm wide, 43cm high and 34cm deep, about 140 litres. Deep enough for screening plants and shrubs, and long enough to run three or four of them in a line for privacy on a courtyard or terrace.
• Mixed and linear planting. The same box takes ornamental grasses, a strip of herbs, or a structured mix of foliage and flowering plants along a boundary or under a window.

Material, weathering and drainage

Material. A wood plastic composite hybrid with a textured grey finish. Wipe it clean with a damp cloth or rinse it with water. No liner or insert is required.

Outdoors. Weather resistant and designed for outdoor conditions all year. No frost or UV rating is published for it, so we make no claim there.

Drainage. It arrives without open holes. The inner pot is made to be drilled, so add drainage before you plant, and add more of it for anything that resents wet feet. No saucer is included, and at 140 litres this is an outdoor planter rather than an indoor one.

What to expect when it arrives

Planters ship empty and unplanted, boxed for transport, with no plant or potting mix included. Put the 980mm planter exactly where you want it and level it before filling: 140 litres of wet mix is not a load you shift afterwards. Delivered Australia wide, with delivery from $29.95.
