Fantasy Love Anthurium (Anthurium andreanum 'Fantasy Love') is a tropical plant with large, dark green heart shaped leaves and smaller, daintier heart shaped flowers in the obake style, where pink and green blend on the one bloom. It grows 50cm to 60cm tall and about 60cm wide. Flowers appear in spring and autumn, and the glossy leaves and flowers suit tropical borders as well as pots.
Why you'll love it
-
Painted colouring. Obake flowers blend pink and green on each bloom, so no two flowers look quite the same.
-
Dainty proportions. Smaller flowers and leaves than most anthuriums give it a lighter, more delicate look.
-
A glossy surface. Leaves and flowers share a polished finish that catches the light in shady spots.
-
Two flowering seasons. Spring and autumn bring the blooms, and the foliage fills the gaps between.
-
Made for shade. It suits shaded underplanting and, because anthuriums flower in shade, makes a good indoor pot plant.
Where it works best
Tropical style borders. Plant 60cm apart along a shaded, sheltered border, so the dark green leaves link up into a continuous band.
Shaded underplanting. It thrives beneath larger tropical plants that give it filtered light and humidity.
Indoor pots. Choose a pot with drainage holes and bright, filtered light for the longest flowering.
Growing Fantasy Love Anthurium in Australia
Position and climate. A sheltered position, out of direct sunlight. Fantasy Love likes humid conditions and needs frost protection, so it grows outdoors only in tropical and subtropical gardens. In cooler regions, grow it in a pot indoors, in bright filtered light.
Soil. A free draining soil rich in organic matter, or a quality potting mix. Mulch the surface.
Water and feed. Mulch and water regularly until established, usually around 12 weeks, and keep it moist during dry periods. Apply slow release fertiliser in spring and liquid fertiliser every two to four weeks in the warmer months, at half strength to avoid burn.
Pruning. Remove spent flowers and tired leaves at the base. Wipe indoor leaves with a damp cloth, and re-pot at the beginning of spring. The leaves contain a poisonous substance, so avoid sap contact with skin.
What to expect when it arrives
We sell Fantasy Love Anthurium as tube stock, a young plant in an 80mm deep tube. The tubes are supplied by our grower, so stock comes and goes. A sold out tube means the grower has none right now, and the notify button on this page emails you the day it returns. Anthuriums are slow growing when young and are raised from tissue culture, so supply is seasonal and limited. Expect a small young plant. Unpack promptly, pot it up or plant it in a sheltered spot, and keep it warm and humid.
Plants are delivered Australia wide, with delivery from $29.95. Every plant is covered by our 30 day healthy plant guarantee.
