Lawn Care

A good lawn comes down to three things: steady feeding, water that soaks in, and enough iron for deep colour. This Plant Doctor lawn range covers all three, with hose-on liquids, slow-release granules, iron supplements and bundles that package a full program. The first decision is how you want to apply it: click a bottle onto the hose and walk the lawn, or spread granules once and let them feed for months.

Hose-on liquids or slow-release granules

Lawn Envy is a pre-mixed lawn food that combines a liquid fertiliser with seaweed, a soil wetter and iron chelate in one bottle. The 2L hose-on pack connects straight to the garden hose with no measuring, and 4L and 10L refills keep the bottle in use. It is made for year-round use, including through winter.

Granules do the long work. Champion Lawn and Fairway is a mineral-based fertiliser in a 2 to 4mm slow-release granule that feeds for up to 3 months, used on home lawns as well as fairways and tees. Champion Lawn and Greens is the finer grade: a 1 to 2mm mini-prill with 3.15% iron, made for all turf types and especially for closely mown lawns.

Greening up a pale lawn

  • MaxGreen. A fast-acting liquid that supplies nitrogen and iron, with fulvic acid to help uptake, for growth and colour together. A 2L hose-on is among the sizes.
  • Liquid Iron. 7% iron and 3% sulphur with fulvic acid for rapid uptake, suited to lawns that have yellowed in alkaline soil or after heavy liming.
  • Iron Sulphate. A soluble powder with more than 19.5% iron. It acts more slowly, builds a longer-lasting store of iron in the soil and improves colour without adding extra nitrogen.

Bundles for a full program

The Lawn Lovers Starter Bundle is a kelp concentrate, a liquid fertiliser and a soil wetter, for anyone starting a regular program. The Lawn Lovers Pro Pack holds five products: kelp, a high nitrogen liquid fertiliser, humic acid, a bio-stimulant and liquid iron. The Value Combo pairs Champion Lawn and Fairway granules with a liquid soil wetter, and the hose-on bundle puts Lawn Envy and MaxGreen together. For turf laid this season, see the turf starter pack in planting kits and bundles.

Common questions

When should I feed my lawn?

Feed when the grass is actively growing. For warm season lawns such as buffalo, couch and kikuyu, that means spring through early autumn. A slow-release granule that feeds for up to 3 months makes the base, with a liquid in between when colour drops.

Why is my lawn still yellow after fertilising?

It may be short of iron, not nitrogen, which is common in alkaline soil. Iron deepens colour without pushing extra growth.

Water runs off my lawn. Will fertiliser help?

Not until the water gets in. Treat water-repellent patches with a soil wetter first, then feed. Lawn Envy and the Value Combo both include a wetting agent. Delivered Australia wide.
