Yellow Herringbone Indoor Plant Pot

The Yellow Herringbone pot is a glazed stoneware planter made in Portugal, sold in two sizes at 130mm and 180mm across. The herringbone runs through the glaze rather than being printed over it, and the stoneware is non-porous, so the pot is fully waterproof and can sit on a shelf or a timber table without soaking through. It is bought for the finish and the colour, and it works indoors or in a protected spot outside.

Why you'll love it

• Waterproof stoneware. The ceramic is non-porous and 100 percent waterproof, so nothing seeps out onto the surface underneath it.
• Texture in the glaze. The herringbone pattern catches light and gives close range detail, which is what a small pot is actually seen at.
• Made in Portugal. Produced by a family owned ceramic specialist and handcrafted, so slight variation in finish between pots is normal.
• Indoors or a sheltered courtyard. Rated for both, provided it stays out of heavy rain, since it has nowhere to drain.

Sizes and what fits in them

Two sizes, named by the diameter across the top.

• 130mm. About 13cm across and 14cm tall, holding roughly 1.5 litres. The shelf and desk size, for small indoor plants and decorative foliage.
• 180mm. About 18cm across and 15.5cm tall, holding roughly 3 to 3.5 litres. This is the one that takes about a 140mm grow pot, so a nursery plant drops straight in.

Material, weathering and drainage

Material. Ceramic stoneware in a yellow glazed herringbone finish, round in shape. Wipe it gently with a dry or slightly damp cloth.

Outdoors. It can live on a balcony or in a courtyard, but only where it is protected from heavy rainfall. With no drainage, a downpour fills it and the water stays there.

Drainage. No drainage holes, no self watering reservoir and no saucer included. Either water sparingly and watch the level, or use it as a cover pot: leave the plant in its grow pot, water at the sink and let it drain before it goes back in. A liner makes swapping plants easier.

What to expect when it arrives

Pots ship empty, with plants and potting mix sold separately. Both sizes are packed to travel, and the 180mm is the one people underestimate: at 18cm across it reads as a side table pot rather than a shelf piece. Being handcrafted, texture and glaze vary a little from pot to pot.

Delivered Australia wide, with delivery from $29.95.
