The Wine Red Cosette Egg is a single size feature pot in glazed terracotta, 550mm across and 500mm high, with a glossy wine red finish over a classic egg silhouette. It is a specimen pot rather than a background one: at 95 to 110 litres it holds enough mix to keep a serious plant going. A drainage hole is built into the base.

  • Small trees. Enough mix for a small tree or a clipped standard, provided you feed and water it as a potted plant.

Plant one thing in it: an egg shape narrows at the shoulder, so a crowded mix hides the form.

Material, weathering and drainage

Material. Glazed terracotta, textured under a glossy wine red glaze. Rinse or wipe it and the finish comes straight back.

Outdoors. Weather resistant and suited to outdoor conditions, and it works indoors where the surface underneath is protected. There is no frost rating on record, and saturated terracotta is at risk in a hard freeze, so in frost prone districts keep it under cover through winter.

Drainage. One hole in the base and no saucer supplied. Raise it on pot feet outdoors so the hole stays clear, and use a saucer or a stand indoors.

The pot ships empty and packed on its own, because glazed terracotta at 550mm is heavy and chips at the rim in transit.
