The Wine Holland Planter is a glazed ceramic pot in the traditional Holland shape, finished in a deep high lustre wine glaze and sold in 240mm, 300mm, 370mm and 460mm. The tapered Holland form is the one most Australians picture when they think of a plant pot, and the glaze is what lifts it above the ordinary. Every size has a drainage hole in the base.

Sizes and what fits in them

The Holland shape is close to as tall as it is wide, so the litre figures climb quickly with each step up.

  • 240mm. About 10 to 12 litres. Bulbs, small indoor plants and compact foliage.
  • 300mm. About 18 to 22 litres. Flowering annuals, herbs and general foliage plants.
  • 370mm. About 40 to 45 litres. Feature plants and shrubs, with room to hold for a couple of seasons.
  • 460mm. About 70 to 75 litres. Large feature plants and statement displays beside a door or a pool gate.

Size up one step, not three. A small plant in a very large pot sits in wet mix it cannot use.

Material, weathering and drainage

Material. Glazed ceramic, textured under the glaze. Rinse it or wipe it with a damp cloth when it dusts up and it comes back to the same finish.

Outdoors. Rated for indoor and outdoor use. We hold no frost rating for it, and glazed ceramic is vulnerable to a hard freeze once the wall is saturated, so in frost prone districts keep it under cover through winter.

Drainage. One hole, already there, and no saucer supplied. Indoors, stand it on a saucer to protect the surface underneath.

What to expect when it arrives

Pots ship empty and are packed individually, since glazed ceramic chips at the rim if it travels loose. Check the glaze on arrival before you fill it. The 460mm is genuinely heavy once planted, so choose its position first. Delivered Australia wide, with delivery from $29.95.
