Yes. StoneLite, GRC and Terrazzo pots can be custom sprayed in almost any Dulux or Colorbond colour for an extra $60. Contact us before ordering.

The White Oval Izumi Bonsai Pot is a shallow glazed ceramic pot made specifically for bonsai, in three sizes from 230mm to 330mm across. The low oval form is the traditional shape for the job: it keeps the root mass shallow and spreading, which is what a trained tree needs, and the white glaze keeps the emphasis on trunk and canopy.

Why you'll love it

  • Proportioned for bonsai. Depths of 80mm to 100mm hold a shallow root pad rather than a deep root ball, which is how bonsai roots are trained to grow.
  • A glaze that stays out of the way. The smooth white finish is clean and even, so a dark trunk and green canopy read strongly against it.
  • Three sizes for three stages. Move a tree up as it develops without changing the look of your display.
  • Drainage where it matters. Drainage holes are included, essential in a shallow pot where the mix sits close to the base.

Sizes and what fits in them

All three are oval and shallow. Match the pot to trunk thickness and canopy spread, not just to height.

  • 230mm. 230mm by 180mm and 80mm deep, roughly 2 to 3 litres. Small trees and early training stock.
  • 280mm. 280mm by 220mm and 90mm deep, roughly 4 to 5 litres. The middle ground for a developing tree.
  • 330mm. 330mm by 270mm and 100mm deep, roughly 6 to 7 litres. For a finished tree with real canopy spread.

Material, weathering and drainage

Material. Glazed ceramic with a smooth white glaze. Ceramic is rigid and it chips, so lift the pot from the base rather than the rim.

Outdoors. Rated for indoor use and for sheltered outdoor positions such as a covered patio or a protected bench. It is not specified as frost proof, so treat it as a sheltered pot and bring it under cover in a hard frost.

Drainage. Drainage holes are included and there is no self watering reservoir, which suits bonsai, where the mix should drain fast and be watered often. Indoors, stand it on a saucer or display board.

What to expect when it arrives

The pot ships empty and unplanted, packed to protect the glaze and the rim in transit. Unwrap it on a soft surface and check it before you pot up. Even the 330mm size is light to place. Pots are delivered Australia wide, with delivery from $29.95.
