Garden Sculptures
A sculpture gives a garden one fixed point that the planting can be arranged around. This range is steel, most of it mild steel with a natural rust patina, and most of it abstract: a family of cube sculptures, a vertical piece of layered curves and a tall abstract angel, alongside a spring tree and a grass tree. Heights run from 380mm to 2200mm. The decision that matters is scale, and the way to get it right is to judge the piece from where you will usually see it.

More information
Choosing the right size
- Compact, 380mm to 600mm high. The smallest cubes and the small cube swirl weigh 8kg to 10kg and fit a balcony, an entry, a wide step or the front of a bed.
- Courtyard scale, 780mm to 900mm high. The Celtic cube, the swirl cube and the cube in a cube weigh 15kg to 17kg and suit a paved court, a gravel bed or a gap between shrubs.
- Feature scale, 1050mm to 1500mm high. The largest cube, the Ascension sculpture, the spring tree and the grass tree can hold a lawn corner or the centre of a bed.
- Landmark. The abstract angel stands 2200mm tall on a base plate 500mm in diameter. It rises above most shrubs and works at the end of a path, in a lawn or against a hedge.
Placing a sculpture among plants
Straight lines look strongest beside soft growth. A cube sets off grasses, ferns, succulents and clipped balls, and a dark clipped hedge makes a clean backdrop for rust; see the hedging and screening plants if you are planting one. Ascension and the cube in a cube can be mounted on a plinth to lift them above the surrounding planting. The grass tree has a weighted base that allows some gentle movement in its upper half, and its stamen comes off for transport. The spring tree comes apart to pack flat.
Rust and footing
The rust patina keeps weathering outdoors and can mark pale paving and pale plinths when wet, so gravel, mulch or soil is the better base. Larger pieces may be made to order, and the product page says so where that applies.
Common questions
How heavy are the sculptures?
Lighter than their size suggests. The cubes weigh 8kg to 17kg, Ascension 18kg, the grass tree about 30kg and the abstract angel 36kg, so most can be repositioned as the planting around them grows.
What should I plant around a steel sculpture?
Loose, fine foliage: native grasses, ferns in shade, succulents in sun, or low clipped shrubs.
Can a sculpture stand on paving?
Yes, but wet rust can leave marks on pale surfaces. Choose darker stone, or set the piece on a pad of gravel within the paving.
Can a sculpture go indoors?
Ascension suits an indoor space as well as a garden or courtyard. Smaller steel pieces are in the art pieces and stands range.
