Terrazzo Tall Egg

The Terrazzo Tall Egg is an upright, softly rounded planter: a fibreglass core wrapped in a real terrazzo shell, which brings it to roughly a quarter of the weight of traditional terrazzo. It comes in four sizes, from 25cm across and 27cm high up to 60cm across and 67cm high. The height is the point, lifting a plant towards eye level without the bulk of solid stone.

Why you'll love it

• Light enough to move on your own. The smallest is 2kg and the largest 12kg, which is what makes it work on balconies and upper floors.
• Taller than it is wide. The egg profile gives root depth in a narrow footprint, which is what a corner or a doorway needs.
• Ready to plant. Drainage holes are already there, and volume runs from 12 to 160 litres.

Sizes and what fits in them

Four sizes, as outside diameter by height.

• 25 x 27cm, 12 litres. A small fern, a clipped herb or a compact succulent on a bench.
• 35 x 39cm, 32 litres. Peace lilies, zanzibar gems and strappy leaf plants in a hallway.
• 44 x 52cm, 65 litres. An indoor palm, a fiddle leaf fig or a dwarf citrus on a balcony.
• 60 x 67cm, 160 litres. A small feature tree or a mature shrub anchoring an entry.

Material, weathering and drainage

Material. A fibreglass core does the structural work, the terrazzo shell the surface. It is sold in the standard terrazzo finish, with empty weights of 2kg, 4kg, 8kg and 12kg.

Outdoors. The range is a favourite for indoor plants and balconies, which is where it does its best work. We publish no frost rating for the tall egg, so in hard frosting districts keep it under cover or against a warm wall.

Drainage. Keep the drainage holes clear and stand the pot on feet. Cover each hole with fibreglass flyscreen, never fabric or geofabric, which clogs. Add 50mm of 10mm gravel, then a premium potting mix rather than garden soil. Indoors, sit it on a saucer.

What to expect when it arrives

Pots ship empty and unplanted, packed to travel, and are dispatched in 2 to 5 business days. Orders are delivered Australia wide, with delivery from $29.95. Terrazzo is a mixed aggregate, so chip pattern and tone vary from the photography. The 60 x 67cm is easy to carry at 12kg empty and immovable once it holds 160 litres of wet mix, so place it first.
