The Terrazzo Cube is a true square planter built on a fibreglass core wrapped in a real terrazzo shell, at roughly a quarter of the weight of traditional terrazzo. Seven sizes run from a 20cm cube holding 8 litres up to a 90cm cube holding 729 litres. Squares line up against a wall far more tidily than round pots, which is usually why people choose this one.

Why you'll love it

  • Real terrazzo, a quarter of the weight. A genuine terrazzo shell rather than a printed finish, on a fibreglass core that keeps the pot liftable.
  • Squares sit flush. Flat sides run hard against a wall or side by side in a row, with no wasted gap.
  • Volume where it counts. A 60cm cube holds 216 litres of mix at only 16kg empty, real root run for a pot one person can position.

Sizes and what fits in them

Listed as length by width by height, with soil volume and empty weight.

  • 20cm to 30cm, 8 to 27 litres, 2.5 to 4kg. Herbs, succulents and small indoor plants. Good in a row of three along a step.
  • 40cm to 50cm, 64 to 125 litres, 7 to 11kg. The everyday feature size: a clipped ball, a compact shrub or a strappy leaf clump.
  • 60cm to 90cm, 216 to 729 litres, 16 to 36kg. Statement squares for entries and courtyards, with room for a small tree.

Material, weathering and drainage

Material. A fibreglass core with a terrazzo shell, sold in the terrazzo finish only. The core gives it flex that solid terrazzo lacks, so it handles better, though a sharp impact can mark the shell and corners take the worst of it.

Outdoors. The surface weathers gently in the open and the speckle keeps its character with age. We hold no frost rating for it, so choose a sheltered spot in hard frost districts.

Drainage. Drainage holes are provided. Keep them clear, raise the cube on feet, and cover each hole with fibreglass flyscreen, never fabric or geofabric, which clog. Add 50mm of 10mm gravel, then a premium potting mix. Indoors it needs a saucer.

What to expect when it arrives

Cubes ship empty and packed for freight, dispatched in 2 to 5 business days. Delivered Australia wide, with delivery from $29.95. Check corner clearance first: a 50cm cube takes 125 litres of mix, and filled it is not a pot you slide across a deck.
