The Pixel Pot GreenWall is a wall mounted vertical garden built from plastic: four mounting strips, four pots to a strip, sixteen planting pockets in all. Each strip measures 520mm wide, 130mm deep and 90mm high, and the system runs off a built in irrigation line with adjustable drippers. That irrigation is the reason to choose it, because sixteen shallow pots on a wall are punishing to hand water.

Sizes and what fits in them

One size is sold, the 520mm strip, and four strips make up the wall.

  • 520mm wide per strip. Mounted in a column, the four strips give a planted panel a little over half a metre across.
  • 130mm deep, 90mm high per pot. A shallow root run, so plan for herbs and leafy greens rather than anything woody.
  • Sixteen pots in total. Enough for a kitchen garden of basil, parsley, mint and lettuce, with room for strawberries.
  • Trailing plants. Devil's Ivy and small ferns spill over the front and soften the line between strips.

Material, weathering and drainage

Material. Plastic throughout: strips, pots and tray. Wipe clean as needed.

Outdoors. It is weather resistant and rated for outdoor use, not for inside. We do not rate it as frost proof, so in cold districts treat it as a spring to autumn planting.

Drainage. Every pot has drainage holes, and what passes through them is caught by the tray. Use a lightweight potting mix rather than a heavy one, which compacts fast in a shallow pot. Check the lines and drippers for blockages a few times a season, because a blocked one on a wall is easy to miss.
