Pink Candelabra Grevillea (Grevillea 'Pink Candelabra') is a tall, upright native shrub reaching 4m high but only 1m to 3m wide. Large leaves carry bright pink, nectar-rich flowers that stand upright like candles in winter and spring. It makes a bold privacy screen or accent plant, and it flowers with as little as a couple of hours of sun a day.
Why you'll love it
-
Tall in a small footprint. The very upright habit gives a 4m screen without the spread of most large shrubs.
-
Candle-like flowers. Bright pink spikes stand to attention in winter and spring.
-
It flowers in less sun. Even a couple of hours of sun a day will bring flowers, so it suits shadier spots than most grevilleas.
-
Grows quickly. Plants grow fast and reach a good size within a year.
-
Good for cutting and wildlife. The flowers are nectar-rich, and the stems can be cut for the house.
Where it works best
Privacy screens and tall hedges. Plant 1.5m apart in a single row. The upright growth forms a tall, narrow screen that fits close to a fence.
Accent plants. A single plant, or a group of three, gives vertical punch to a mixed border.
Wildlife and cut-flower gardens. The nectar-rich flowers draw birds, and the stems can be cut for the house.
Growing Pink Candelabra Grevillea in Australia
Position and climate. Full sun for the most flowers, though it will flower with as few as a couple of hours of sun a day. It tolerates dry periods once established, but it needs protection from frost, so it is best in subtropical and frost-free warm temperate gardens.
Soil. Free draining soil is preferred. Because it is grafted, it grows in a wider range of soils than own-root grevilleas. Remove any leaves that appear below the graft point.
Water and feed. Water regularly for the first 8 to 12 weeks until established. Feed with a slow release native fertiliser when buds form, with phosphorus under 3 per cent.
Pruning. Prune after flowering to promote flowers and a dense habit. Remove any horizontal branches to keep the upright shape. Mature plants can be hard pruned to reduce height and renew growth.
What to expect when it arrives
We sell Pink Candelabra Grevillea as tube stock, a young plant in an 80mm deep tube that establishes quickly. Pink Candelabra is grafted, so the young stem has a graft point near the base, held with biodegradable tape that dissolves on its own. Keep the graft above the soil when planting. Availability of the tube depends on our grower, who does not always have it ready. A sold out tube is simply waiting for the next batch, and the notify button on the page sends you an email the day it is back.
Plants are delivered Australia wide, with delivery from $29.95. Every plant is covered by our 30 day healthy plant guarantee.

Common questions
Why is it grafted?
Grafting joins the flowering plant to a more robust rootstock, so it grows in a wider range of soils. Plant it with the graft above soil level.
Will it flower in part shade?
Yes, it will flower with only a couple of hours of sun a day, though full sun gives the most flowers.
How do I keep it upright?
Prune away any horizontal branches after flowering. If it gets too tall, a mature plant can be hard pruned to reduce its height.
