Peach Delight Ixora (Ixora 'Peach Delight') is a compact tropical shrub that grows 60cm tall and 50cm wide. Clusters of small, neat-petalled flowers shade from pale mango to rich apricot, carried on long stems above glossy, vivid green foliage in spring and summer. It gives a tropical garden a softer alternative to the usual reds and oranges.
Why you'll love it
-
Soft peach shades. Each cluster runs from pale mango through to apricot, so the colour changes as you look at it.
-
Neat little petals. The small, tidy petals give the heads a finished look that suits formal and tropical gardens alike.
-
Long stems. The flower heads rise on long stems above the foliage, so they show clearly.
-
Compact and evergreen. Glossy leaves hold their colour all year on a plant that stays under a metre.
Where it works best
Tropical borders. Plant 40cm apart in groups of three or five, in front of palms, gingers and cordylines, for a soft peach drift.
Low hedging. Set plants 40cm apart and clip lightly after flowering for a dense, flowering hedge around 60cm high.
Mass planting and pots. Large beds of one colour look elegant, and a 35cm pot holds a single plant on a patio.
Growing Peach Delight Ixora in Australia
Position and climate. Full sun to part shade, in a warm, humid garden. It is a tropical plant, so it suits tropical and subtropical regions and must be protected from frost. In cooler places it will do best in a pot that you can shelter.
Soil. Well drained soil, kept on the acid side. Alkaline soil causes yellowing leaves.
Water and feed. Mulch and water regularly until the plant is established, usually around 12 weeks. Water frequently, as ixoras prefer humid conditions. If leaves begin to yellow, feed with a liquid seaweed fertiliser.
Pruning. Prune after flowering to promote dense growth and a prolific display in the next flowering season.
What to expect when it arrives
We sell Peach Delight Ixora as tube stock: a young plant in an 80mm deep tube that establishes quickly in warm soil. Plant tubes into mulched ground in spring for the best start.
The tube is supplied by our grower, so stock comes and goes. If it shows as sold out when you visit, press the notify button on the page and we will email you the day it is back.
Plants are delivered Australia wide, with delivery from $29.95. Every plant is covered by our 30 day healthy plant guarantee.
