Madeira Pink Crested Marguerite (Argyranthemum frutescens 'Madeira Pink Crested') is a compact, bushy daisy that covers itself in bright pink double flowers through the warmer months. It stays just 15 to 25cm tall and 25 to 30cm wide, and each bloom has a raised puff of petals in the centre where a classic daisy has its golden eye. It is made for sunny pots, borders and cottage gardens.
Why you'll love it
-
Crested pink flowers. Bright pink double daisies with rounded petals and a full, domed centre give a three dimensional look up close.
-
Bred to be bushy. The Madeira series is bred to be extra bushy, early flowering and naturally compact, which means more flowers per plant.
-
Easy colour. Sun and the odd feed are enough to keep it covered in flowers, and it fills a pot or a border quickly.
-
Fast and tidy. It grows quickly into a neat mound, and does not need staking or shaping.
-
Tough in hot, dry spots. Full sun and light, free draining soil are exactly what it wants.
Where it works best
Patio pots. At 15 to 25cm tall it sits happily in a pot on a sunny step, balcony or table. Use free draining mix and water regularly while it flowers.
Borders and mixed beds. Plant 25cm apart at the front of a border for a continuous band of pink, which fills in within a season.
Cottage gardens. The crested flowers suit soft, informal planting beside lavender, catmint and roses.
Growing Madeira Pink Crested Marguerite in Australia
Position and climate. Full sun. It needs a frost free spot, so it suits subtropical, warm temperate and Mediterranean gardens. In colder regions, enjoy it as seasonal bedding or overwinter the pot in a sheltered place. Growth may slow in hot midsummer.
Soil. Free draining, sandy or light soil is ideal, although it will grow in clay if the drainage is reasonable. In a pot, use a quality potting mix.
Water and feed. Mulch with organic matter and water until the plants are established, and again in dry spells. Feed during flowering to keep the blooms coming.
Pruning. Remove dead flowers regularly. Deadheading prolongs flowering and keeps the mound tidy.
What to expect when it arrives
We sell Madeira Pink Crested Marguerite as tube stock, a young plant in an 80mm deep tube that establishes quickly in warm soil. Marguerites grow fast, so a tube soon becomes a full pot of colour. Tube stock comes from our grower and is not always available. When the grower has none, the tube shows as sold out, and the notify button on the page emails you the day it is back.
Plants travel upright. Pot up or plant out promptly, water in well and place in full sun once settled.
Plants are delivered Australia wide, with delivery from $29.95. Every plant is covered by our 30 day healthy plant guarantee.
