Galaxy Aloe (Aloe hybrid 'Galaxy') is a speckled succulent with sharp, slender green leaves, each one marked in its own pattern. It matures into a tidy rosette that suits succulent gardens and pots. It is a newer variety, so its final size is still being recorded, and we would rather say so than guess.
Why you'll love it
-
Patterned leaves. Each spiny-looking green leaf is marked in an interesting pattern, so a small plant has a lot of detail.
-
A tidy rosette. Plants mature into neat rosettes that keep their shape without trimming.
-
Easy care. Aloes require little water, and this one asks for little more than sun and drainage.
-
Pot or garden. It is happy in pots or planted out in free draining soil.
-
A new variety. It is new to our range, which makes it an interesting addition for succulent collectors.
Where it works best
Succulent gardens. Plant it in a sunny bed with other aloes and echeverias, leaving at least 40cm between plants until you see how it grows.
Pots. A medium pot of gritty mix is a good home. Keep it in a bright spot and let the mix dry between waterings.
Growing Galaxy Aloe in Australia
Position and climate. Full sun or part shade. It is at home in subtropical, warm temperate, Mediterranean and arid gardens. Shelter it from frost, and in colder districts grow it in a pot that can come under cover.
Soil. Use a free draining mix in pots, or plant out in well drained ground. Keep the crown above the soil surface, because water that sits in the centre of the rosette invites rot.
Water and feed. Give it a weekly drink in the warmer months and less in winter. Feed once in spring with an organic liquid fertiliser diluted to half strength.
Pups and tidying. As it matures, young plants may form at the base. Separate them when the pot is full, then pot them on or share them.
What to expect when it arrives
We sell Galaxy Aloe as tube stock, a young plant in an 80mm deep tube that establishes quickly. It arrives as a small rosette whose speckled pattern shows from the start. Plant it with the crown clear of the soil and give it a sunny, well drained position. Our grower supplies the tube stock, and supply is not constant. If the tube shows as sold out, the grower has none at that moment, and the notify button on the page emails you the day it returns.
Plants are delivered Australia wide, with delivery from $29.95. Every plant is covered by our 30 day healthy plant guarantee.

Common questions
How big will it grow?
It is a newer variety, so its final size is not yet well recorded. It matures into a tidy rosette, so plan on a compact plant for a pot or a small garden bed.
Does it need full sun?
It is suited to full sun and part shade. More light gives tighter, better-marked rosettes.
Is Galaxy Aloe safe for pets?
No. Like other aloes it is toxic to dogs and cats when chewed, so keep it where they cannot nibble it.
