The Cyclone Multi Surface Weeder is a long handled hoe for taking weeds out of beds, gravel and pathways without kneeling on the ground. The head is carbon steel, 198mm wide and 84mm high, joined by a polished peaked socket to a timber handle that brings the whole tool to 1600mm. It carries Cyclone's lifetime guarantee.
Weed shallow. Draw the head towards you just under the surface and slice the weed off at the crown rather than dragging the root system up, because turning soil over only brings the next batch of weed seed to the light. Work on a dry day so the cut weeds wilt instead of re-rooting, and go over the ground again in a fortnight to catch the second flush. The same head breaks a surface crust on compacted soil and levels a seed bed before sowing.
Knock the soil off after use, hang it dry by the hanging hole, and give the steel head a light oil occasionally.
Beds, paths and gravel. Annual weeds and seedling growth through garden beds, gravel driveways, decomposed granite paths and the strip along a fence line.
