Landscaping Supplies
These are the hard landscaping basics that finish a garden: metal, timber and stone edging, decorative pebbles and white stone, drainage gravel, paver sand, screening panels and bamboo stakes. None of it grows, but all of it decides whether the things that do grow look intentional. Bags and panels come in standard sizes, so quantities are easy to plan, and the guide below gives real coverage rates per bag and per metre before you reach the checkout.

Working out quantities
For decorative stone and pebbles, allow roughly four 20kg bags per square metre at a 50mm depth, the minimum depth that keeps soil covered. The 20 to 25mm Snow White stone suits paths and open mulched areas, while the chunkier 30 to 50mm white pebbles hold their position better on slopes and around water. Drainage gravel behind a retaining wall or in a soakage trench works at the same rate. For edging, measure the bed perimeter and divide by unit length: the flat rust metal edging runs 6m per pack, the Roman stone edging 1.2m and the merbau border roll 2m.
Edging: pick by line, not just by look
Flexible metal and timber edging follow curves, so they suit organic bed shapes, and the flat rust profile all but disappears once plants spill over it. Rigid stone effect edging wants straight runs and formal beds. Whichever you choose, set it 10 to 20mm proud of the lawn so the mower wheel can ride the edge, and bed it on a compacted sand base, which is exactly the job of the 20kg paver sand.
Screens and stakes
The bamboo slat and PVC screening panels fix straight to tired palings or a light frame and improve the backdrop the same afternoon. They also buy time while a living screen grows in front of them, and a planted screen from the hedging and screening range remains the better ten year answer. Bamboo stakes belong in the ground at planting time, not after: stake a new tree loosely with two stakes and soft ties so the trunk still flexes and thickens.
Common questions
How many bags of stone for a 3m x 1m bed?
About twelve 20kg bags at 50mm deep, or half that for a 25mm top up over existing stone. Lay weed matting first and you will not be topping up for years.
What goes under pavers or stepping stones?
A compacted 20 to 30mm bed of paver sand over firm soil. One 20kg bag covers just under half a square metre at that depth.
Can the screening panels be cut to size?
Yes, both the bamboo and PVC screening cut with ordinary hand tools, and offcuts do a second job hiding bins and pool pumps. Finish the new bed with products from our potting mixes, mulches and fertilisers range and the corner is done in a weekend.
