The Comet is a solar path light with a PIR motion sensor, sold as a pack of two fittings. It gives 100 lumens and runs for about 6 hours on a 3.7V 1500mAh lithium battery charged by a 0.5W polycrystalline solar panel. It is made for lighting paths and the edges of decks.

Why you'll love it

  • Two fittings in the pack. A pair covers both sides of a step or gate, or two points along a short path.
  • A motion sensor on board. Each light has a PIR sensor that responds to movement nearby.
  • Solar powered. A polycrystalline panel and a lithium battery do the work, so there is no wiring and no electrician to call.
  • Rated for outdoor use. The fitting carries an IP45 dust and water protection rating and a 1 year warranty.

Where to use it

Use the pair where people walk at night: along a path beside a garden bed, at the top and bottom of a set of steps, on the edge of a deck, or down a side passage to the bins or the shed. At 100 lumens each light shows the ground ahead and the planting beside it. Set the lights where the panel receives direct sun for most of the day. Dense shade under trees or close against a south-facing wall will shorten the run time, especially in winter. Trim back foliage that grows over the fittings during the season.
