The Black Riley Egg Pot is a curved, egg shaped planter in lightweight composite, finished in a textured black. It is sold in two sizes, 300mm and 400mm, both drilled for drainage and rated for indoor or outdoor use. It suits a single feature plant, where the shape of the pot does as much work as the foliage above it.

Sizes and what fits in them

Two sizes are stocked, named by diameter.

  • 300mm. About 30cm across and 28cm tall, holding roughly 18 to 22 litres of mix. The size for indoor foliage plants, compact shrubs and anything you want at corner height.
  • 400mm. About 40cm across and 36.6cm tall, holding roughly 40 to 45 litres. Enough root volume for a proper feature plant or a clipped shrub by a door.

An egg pot narrows at the base, so give the 400mm a level surface and set it before you fill it.

Material, weathering and drainage

Material. Lightweight composite with a textured black finish. It cleans up with a damp cloth or a rinse from the hose.

Outdoors. Rated for outdoor use as well as indoor. Black absorbs heat, so on a hot exposed patio it pays to choose a plant that handles warm roots, or to give the pot afternoon shade.

Drainage. Drainage holes are included and no liner is needed. Indoors, stand it on a saucer or a tray, because water runs straight through and out the base.

What to expect when it arrives

Pots ship empty and are packed to travel, with plants and potting mix sold separately. Both sizes are easy to carry empty, but a 400mm holding 40 to 45 litres of wet mix is another matter, so choose the position first and plant it in place.
