All Seasons Red Mandevilla (Mandevilla hybrid) is a deep red flowering climber bred by Ozbreed to handle cold better than other mandevillas. It climbs to about 2m on a trellis, or rambles as a compact shrub while young, carrying large, vivid red flowers through much of the warm season. It suits fence lines, archways and big pots.
Why you'll love it
-
Deeper, brighter red. The large flowers are more vivid than most mandevillas, and they keep opening for more of the season.
-
Tougher in the cold. Ozbreed's trials found it handles cold considerably better than nearly all the mandevillas it tested.
-
Cleaner leaves, less dieback. The foliage is glossy and tidy, and trials showed less dieback in heat than other types.
-
Climber, shrub or pot plant. It is more compact than the common form, so it climbs a trellis, trails from a container or rambles as a shrub.
-
Quick, tropical looking cover. Given a trellis and warm weather it climbs quickly, which gives a fence or archway a tropical look.
Where it works best
Fence lines and archways. Plant 1m apart along a permanent trellis or wires and tie the shoots in as they grow. It needs support to screen, so build that first.
Large pots. A wide pot with a trellis by a door or on a balcony gives a bold splash of colour, and lets you move it under cover when a heavy frost is forecast.
Rambling shrub. Without support, young plants mound and ramble. Space them 1m apart, about one plant per square metre, and add a trellis as they climb.
Growing All Seasons Red Mandevilla in Australia
Position and climate. Full sun to part shade. Ozbreed lists it for Queensland, New South Wales, Western Australia and South Australia, and says other states need testing, so treat it as a warm climate plant. It handles cold better than most mandevillas but still needs shelter from heavy frost.
Soil. Good drainage matters. A well drained loam with plenty of organic matter suits it, while heavy clay that stays wet will cause trouble.
Water and feed. Water well for the first 8 to 13 weeks until established. Fertilise regularly through the warm months, because feeding is what keeps the flowers coming.
Pruning. After a frost, cut out any damaged stems to encourage new growth. Otherwise tie in new shoots and trim to keep the shape you want.
What to expect when it arrives
All Seasons Red Mandevilla is listed in 140mm pots in packs of 10, enough for a long fence line or a run of large pots. Stock comes from Ozbreed's licensed growers and is grown to order at times, so a size can show as backorder. Order it and we confirm timing with you before anything ships.
Plants are delivered Australia wide, with delivery from $29.95. Every plant is covered by our 30 day healthy plant guarantee.

Common questions
Does it need a trellis?
Yes, if you want it to screen. Mandevillas need a permanent trellis or fence to climb, though this one is compact enough to ramble as a shrub while young.
How cold can it go?
It is tougher than other mandevillas but it is not a frost plant. Keep it sheltered from heavy frost and remove damaged stems afterwards.
How do I get more flowers?
Give it full sun, water well while it establishes and fertilise regularly. Feeding is the main lever for flower numbers.
