Indoor Plant Care

Indoor plants live on whatever is in the pot, and potting mix runs down over time. This Plant Doctor range is a small, complete kit for houseplants: an everyday liquid food, a rescue tonic for stressed plants, a nutrient for plants grown in water, and bundles that combine them. What matters most is how your plants are grown. A plant in potting mix and a cutting rooted in a jar of water need different products.

More information

The liquids and what each does

  • Indoor Plant Food. An all-purpose liquid in a 500ml bottle for regular feeding, combining fish concentrate, blood and bone, seaweed, and humic and fulvic acids. A plant-derived wetting agent is built in, which helps water penetrate tired potting mix that has started to shed it.
  • Indoor Plant Rescue Remedy and Multi-Vitamins. An odour-free tonic made with seaweed and humic and fulvic acids. It is used on wilting, drooping, yellowing or weak plants and for transplant shock, to replenish micronutrients and support root growth and recovery.
  • Passive Hydro Plant Food. A nutrient solution in a 30ml bottle for plants grown in water with no soil: propagation stations, glass jars, vases and terrariums. The clean, low-colour formula does not cloud the water.

Choosing a bundle

The Indoor Plant Bundle pairs the Plant Food with the Rescue Remedy, a simple feed and recover routine for plants in potting mix. The Indoor Plant Foods Bundle adds the Passive Hydro Plant Food, so cuttings in water are covered too. The Indoor Plants Improver Bundle goes a step further with a granular soil improver that conditions the potting mix over the longer term, worth having on hand at repotting time.

Feeding houseplants through the year

Feed when plants are growing, which for most indoor plants means spring to early autumn, and ease back in winter when light is low. If the mix is dry, water first and feed second, so nutrients soak into damp mix instead of running down the inside of the pot. A newly bought or repotted plant gains more from the rescue tonic than from a strong feed while it settles. If you are moving a plant up a size, our pots and planters cover the container side.

Common questions

Can I use these on outdoor pots as well?

Yes. The Indoor Plant Food is used for regular feeding of indoor and outdoor plants, and the Rescue Remedy suits seedlings, pot plants, vegetables, fruit trees, shrubs and palms, including after heatwaves or frost.

My plant is drooping. Food or rescue remedy?

Check the watering first: dry mix and waterlogged mix both cause drooping. Then reach for the Rescue Remedy, which is made for stressed plants, and return to regular feeding once new growth appears.

What do I feed plants growing in water?

Passive Hydro Plant Food. Plants in water have no potting mix to draw nutrients from, so they rely entirely on what is in the jar. Delivered Australia wide.
